Introduction: 3D Printed Air Horn

About: After a degree in micro-engineering in Switzerland, I moved to Russia to discover new landscapes

To make this compressed air horn, you need:

  • 3D printer
  • Bike inner tube valve
  • Plastic bottle with cap
  • Flat plastic film 0.4 65 x 65 mm
  • 6 M2.5 screws
  • Bicycle pump
  • Some glue
  • Paper clip (or 1mm Ø iron wire)
  • 6 mm and 1 mm drill bits

Step 1: Print the Parts

Download and print the files or make your own design.

Step 2: Cut the Membrane

The membrane has been cut in the 0.4mm plastic film (any thickness around this should work). It is a disk with six holes on the border for the screws. Use the "back" part to draw the pattern.

When assembled, the membrane is tighten on the central ring like a drum.

Step 3: Prepare the Bottle Cap

Drill the bottle cap in the center at 6 mm diameter. Then insert the tube valve and glue it (I used hot glue but epoxy is better). You can use the rim nut to secure it.

I made a slot in the valve thread with a grinder in order to have a self-tapping screw. (cf. picture)

Step 4: Assemble Everything

Press fit the "trompette" with the "front" part (after testing you can glue the parts). Then add the membrane and the "back" with the six M2.5 screws. You can use the nuts or tap the six holes. I added white glue for air sealing.

Cut a 20mm length iron wire (Ø1mm) (paperclip) and press fit the "piston". Insert the the piston inside the "raccordL" part and add the "bouttonPoussoir" on the other iron wire end.

Glue the trigger to the horn at to desired position.

Use the bike pump to compress the air in the bottle (avoid explosion or wear glasses and ear protections). I made a small slot in the bike valve to make the inner thread of the trigger when I screw the valve.

Be careful, it is very loud!
