My mom has recently gotten into gardening and doesn't really have any gardening supplies; with Mother's Day coming up I decided to get her some and make her a gardening apron to wear. This apron is great to wear, it can carry your gardening tools and when its time to harvest just unsnap the center pocket and start picking!

Materials needed:

Fabric 1.5 meters
Snap closures
Fabric scissors
Sewing machine (optional)
Decorative button (large)
Measuring tape
pins

Step 1: Cutting the Material

The first step is to measure and cut your fabric.

Cut one strip long enough to go around the waist plus 4 inches (use a fabric that doesn't fray) . This strip should be 4-8 inches wide depending on how wide you want the waist band to be.

Cut two rectangle pieces 7inches wide by 16inches long. This will be your apron.

For the pockets cut one rectangle piece 5inches wide by 16inches long.

Step 2: Sewing It Together

Everything is done with a .5 inch seam allowance, except the waistband. Waistband has a .25 inch seam allowance.

Decide which area on the pocket will be the top, and fold over .5 inches and sew the folded area down. (Make sure you sew it were the raw edge faces the inner pocket.) Do the same with the front apron piece.

Align the pocket with the front of the apron piece (bottom edges together, good side facing up) and pin. Measure out 5.5 inches from side and sew a straight line from the bottom up on the pocket, from this point measure out 5 inches and sew another straight line. Congratulations you made the front pockets on your apron!

Lay the bottom piece (bad side up) over the two pieces you just used, making sure the bottom edges are aligned, and pin them together. Sew around the sides and bottom edge. Flip inside out so the good side is facing out again. (The back piece should be longer than the front at this point).

For the waistband fold the fabric you cut in half and sew along the top and sides, leaving the bottom open.

To attach the waistband to the apron: place the raw edge of the back of the apron into the bottom of the waistband, the waistband should completely cover the raw edge. (Make sure to that you place the apron at the edge of the waistband). Sew it.
Cut off excess fabric after sewing.

Step 3: Final Touches

Sew the snaps onto the middle pocket every four inches. Sew a button hole onto the end of the waistband and sew a button onto the apron.

Now you have a nice gardening apron!
