Build a Low Cost Film / Video Boom Microphone

This is a very, very simple project that should take no more than half an hour.

The main component of the build is a telescopic pole used by painters. It enables them to use a roller brush to paint tall ceilings and walls without climbing ladders. You only
need to make one saw cut to complete 80% of the project!

Below is a picture of the pole in its "normal" guise.

All you have to do is cut the end off the middle tube, the part that holds the roller.

Next, you need a piece of 22mm plastic tubing, and the same length of wood dowel. The latter should fit inside the tube fairly tightly. Smear the wood with glue, and it into
the plastic sleeve.

Once the glue has set, drill a 3mm hole down the center of the wood as upright as possible. (It doesn`t matter if you drill a little out-of-true) Drill the wood about 1" deep.

Next, take the microphone adaptor bush, and pass a 1 1/2" screw through the middle hole. Screw this into the wood.

That`s it. You can now screw a plastic microphone holder onto the end of the pole.
