Introduction: Butterfly Barette

Today I show you how to make a butterfly barrette.  This was made out of acrylic using a laser and other equipment at techshop chandler.   http://www.techshop.ws/

Step 1: Get Image You Would Like to Use.

I did a quick search on the internet and found an image of a butterfly and saved it to my desktop.  I then opened it up in adobe Illustrator and added an outer line around the perimeter of the picture.  This line i then changed to RGB RED with a thickness of .001 in.  This was done because of the settings of the Universal laser we have use of.  This is the cut line.   In the picture you can not see this line.  It is hidden behind the black image.   I then engraved this onto a piece of black acrylic.

Step 2: Bending Part

I then used a plastic bender to put a slight bend into the acrylic so it would fit better on a curved barrette.  The device I used concentrates the heat to a very small area.  This made it easy to bend in the center.

Step 3: Glue Up

I then used a little plastic 5 min epoxy to glue the butterfly to the barrette.

Step 4: Hope You Enjoy

I wanted to make something fun in a short amount of time.  I made this at techshop.   http://www.techshop.ws/
