Introduction: Calzones From Scratch

About: Architect, graphic designer, likes arts and crafts-person

I wanted to make pizza using my neighbors pizza dough recipe, but my toaster oven is too small to fit a round pizza. So I decided to wrap it up into calzones!

It's a very simple recipe, and you can use any vegetables for the filling. I used onions and peppers, but you can do mushrooms or olives too.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Ingredients:

Dough:
- 2 cups flour
- 2-3 tbsp water
- 1 container (250 grams) of soft white cheese (sour cream might work if you can't find the cheese)
- 1 bag of baking powder - 10 grams, 0.35 oz, or 3 tsp works also

Sauce:
- Tomato paste
- Spices: garlic powder or granules, salt, pepper, sweet paprika, oregano
- Oil
- Water

Filling:
- Onion
- Red bell pepper
- Yellow cheese

Step 2: Make Sauce and Saute Veggies

In a small saucepan, mix tomato paste with a bit of oil, water, and spices. Bring to a boil and simmer.

Saute onion and bell pepper (or mushrooms if you want) with a bit of oil until onion is translucent.

Step 3: Make Dough and Roll Out

Mix 2 cups flour, 2 tbsp water, 250 grams soft white cheese and a bag or 3 tsp of baking powder.
If the dough is too dry, add a tbsp of water.
Knead into a dough, and divide into 4 balls.
Roll out dough with a rolling pin until flat.

Step 4: Fill and Fold Your Dough

Spread about 1-2 tbsp of sauce on the dough. Leave the edges empty.
Put in some veggies and shredded (or cut up pieces) yellow cheese.
Fold the dough into a half circle and close at the edges. Cut some slits in the top to let steam escape.

Step 5: Bake and Enjoy!

Bake at 175C / 350F for about 40 minutes until browned and bubbly!
Let it cool a bit and enjoy!
I manged to eat 1 and a half, they are filling! You can eat one with a salad and have a perfect meal.
