Introduction: Cardboard Wine Balancer

About: Hi I just love to make stuff, that's it. Greets

Hi

This is an easy tutorial on how to make a wine balancer from cardboard.

I made this as a concept design for a school project.

The concept: People put their wine on shelf's and can make a wine holder from the box! By easy pressing and folding without using glue or scissors.

On the first part of the instructable, I will explain how I made my prototype.

On the last part I will explain how the concept work's.

Step 1: What Do You Need?

What do you need?

  • A wine box, and 2 wine bottles. You can use one while you are making it ;)
  • A ruler
  • Some painter's tape
  • A box cutter
  • Glue
  • A marker
  • And my template for the folding (u can find it on the next step)

Step 2: Drawing the Template on the Box

Grab a glass of wine. We can begin.

I added the template file in pdf. The scale should be perfect, go and print it on a A3 paper (sorry it couldn't be A4 because the dwg is to big).

U can draw the file for yourself on the box, or you can print, cut it and paste it on the box. But I would recommend that you draw it, cause then you have the cool pictures of the wine on the end result.

If you are not interested on how the customer would use it (the concept). Then you can just cut out the full side of a box en use te template on that. It's easier.

So you draw the pdf on the biggest side of the box.

Step 3: Cutting Out the Template

After you drew the template on the box, you can cut it.

Just use a box cutter to cut it, very nice and smooth (don't cut the folding lines!)

Don't forget to sip from your wine.

Step 4: Folding

So once you cutted out the template.

You can cut once on all the folding lines, don't cut trough! Just one small cut, for the fold.

Then u can fold the piece of carboard into a triangular shape.

Step 5: Glueing It Together

Now u can add glue, I coloured the strip where you need to add glue.

Put some glue on the green fold it over and glue it to the inside of the other end.

Voila! Now u have a triangular shaped, balancing bottle holder (make sure you drink your glass of wine).

This is the end of part 1. In the next part I will explain how my concept works.

Step 6: People Get the Box

They drank their wine, and have 1 bottle left.

On the box you can find instructions to make the balancing bottle holder.

Step 7: Pushing Out

The customer can push out the template and push out the hole's.

All the folding lines and cutting lines are perforated, so people can easy press out the template en fold the cardboard.

Step 8: Folding

Now they can fold the template on the perforated fold lines, so they have easy and clean fold's.

Step 9: Paste

The green stroke is a glue stroke on the product, so the customer only needs to remove the protectening paper and can join it without using glue.

Step 10: Put the Wine In

Voila they have their balancing wine holder! Easily made in less than 15min.

The cool thing about this: You can have a wine holder for each different bottle.

Watch the video to understand how it works.

Have a nice day! Good luck crafting and making stuff!
