Introduction: Chalkboard Wine Glasses

About: I like to make things for the internets. I also sell a pretty cool calendar at supamoto.co. You'll like it.

These wine glasses have a chalkboard painted bottom so that your guests can write their names on the glasses and know which glass belongs to who in an instant.

I've seen this idea bouncing around the internet for a bit like here and some other site I can't seem to find again, but I figured I'd try it myself to see if it really was as ridiculously easy as it looks.

Well it is, it's insanely easy to do. No skill required. OK, the vague skill of pointing a spraypaint can in the right direction is needed, but that's about it.

Step 1: What You Need

Wine glasses
Chalkboard spraypaint
Masking tape
Newspaper (not shown/invisible)

Step 2: Wrap and Paint

Tape around the stem where you want the paint to end. Then just tape on a piece of newspaper and stuff the other end inside the wine glass. You've now covered up everything you don't want chalkboard paint on. Easy!

Now... paint! Be in a well-ventilated area and wear a respirator and apply at least 2 to 3 light coats of spraypaint, letting the paint dry out between coats. 15 minutes is usually plenty of time.

Step 3: Enjoy!

With the paint dry, take off the tape and let it sit for 24 hours before you use it the first time. Your glasses are now ready to be written on with chalk.

For a cleaner and more colorful look for the names, I used Chalk Ink markers.

Now write some names down and drink up!
