Child-sized Cardboard Chair

Make this child sized chair out of 10' of singlefaced corrugated and cardboard circles cut from recycled boxes.

Step 1: Items Needed

• 10' x 20" of singlefaced corrugated (the kind that comes in a roll)
• Scrap regular cardboard to make three 12" circles
• Brads
• White or wood glue
• Craft knife
• Awl
• Pencil
• Ruler or tape measurer
• Template (see attached pdf)

Step 2: Cut Parts Out of Corrugated Roll

Using the template measure out and cut out the two main parts of the chair. With smooth sides together use white glue or wood glue to bond together. You can also use hot glue but I found liquid glue was better for a uniform bond. With the slower setting glue you also have time to line up the parts.

Step 3: Cut Out Three 12" Diameter Circles

Here's a chance to re-use some of those cardboard boxes you have laying around. To make 12" diameter circles I made a compass tool out of a paint stir stick. Drill a hole at one end and drill holes in the stick as needed. To make a 12" diameter circle drill a hole 6" from the pilot hole. Cut out three 12" circles.

Step 4: Poke Holes and Join With Brads

Using an awl or pencil poke holes where indicated on the template. When you go to put the brad through the holes - place the chair form on a flat surface. You may need to make adjustments to the second hole locations so that the chair sits flat.

Step 5: Making the Seat

Be sure to make the designated cuts and folds to one of the three circles before gluing them together. Pop up the tab in the third circle and secure with a brad. When gluing together you can make the seat a bit stronger if you cross the direction of the "grain" in the cardboard.

Step 6: Finishing Up

Once you've secured the brads place the seat in the chair. The piece that sticks up keeps the seat in place.
