Introduction: Collapsible Wood Cup
While backpacking I always have a collapsilble cup with me. Decided to make my own, out of wood laying around.
This is a rough prototype 3" Radius, 1 5/8" High. Made with a dremel. The most fun was making dremel attachments using the dremel. This took a good 5hrs to finish. Also see my collapsible plastic glass instructable.
LAST STEP IS FOR THOSE WOODWORKERS WITH A LATHE. THIS COULD BE DONE MUCH FASTER AND WITH PRECISION. LOOK FOWARD TO SEEING SOME DONE WITH A LATHE.
Step 1: Materials
Wood log. Dry and completely round
Dremel
Hole saw
Chisel
Sandpaper
Square
Putty
I use soda caps for cutting wheels
Using the dremel grinding attachment. I made router bits using 10D framing spikes.
Drilling bits/cutting bits. Using 6 penny finish nails.
Grinders using 3" #8 Drywall screws.
Step 2: Cut the Log
Cut your log in half to size you want.
Use hole saw to set ring sizes.
80 degree angle cuts with dremel bits.
Step 3: Top and Bottoms. Assemble
Grinding the base and lid with dremel.
Ring segments had to be patched with putty due to knots and thin walls.
After finishing with a water based sealer. Glued smallest ring to base.
This one does not hold WATER. Has a flat side, knots and uneven walls due to my using dremel.
Step 4: Lathe Idea?
Lathe out each segment at an angle.
Just cut rings to center stationary base ring.
PULL UP FOR YOUR CUP
Lathe out lid.
