Introduction: Cotton Candy Machine

About: Interested in different things i could possibly make.

Cotton Candy is also called floss candy and it is made from caramelized sugar.

How does it work?
The concept of this machine is to use centrifugal force to push out the caramelized sugar to the little holes around it. Heat is applied to the spinner to melt the sugar inside it.

there is a faster way in making cotton candy with this machine but it will take much more energy for our body. The faster way is to make it step by step, heat the syrup then place it into the spinner to just do the cotton part.

This instructables will show you step by step procedure to make a Cotton candy machine.

Step 1: Materials for the Machine

The some of the materials is used from recycled materials.

Body:
  1. Recycled Ice Cream container or similar (Square type)
  2. Basin
  3. Bolt and nut
Machine head (spinner)
  1. Motor (any fast DC)
  2. Battery/ AC-DC adaptor (depending on your motor)
  3. Metal cover (Canned Goods, Drinks cap)
  4. Bolt and nut
  5. terminal block
Tools
  1. Drill
  2. Soldering Iron
  3. Screw driver
  4. Set of pliers (Long nose, cutter and etc.)
  5. Ruler
Safety Gear
  1. Eye protection
  2. Hand protection (I suggest non-Cloth Gloves)

Step 2: Measure and Mark the Needed Holes for the Body

There will be 2 parts to be measured and holed.

Basin and Base Binder
The basin could be removed for it to be washed every after use so i used a Bolt and nut in my design. Since the base of the basin is square i marked each edge for its binder.

In this step i suggest drilling the Container and the Basin together so that they will have a good fitting.

Motor Hole
Since i used a square base i can just get a ruler and connect each diagonal edge and make a line forming an X mark. the intersection marks the hole for the center.

If your motor has a hole on body for a screw make another mark that fits it.

Step 3: Drill Holes

After marking drill the holes with the correct diameter.

the diameter based on the bolt and nut used.

Step 4: Making the Spinner Head

Sand the Tin cover then mark the center.

Drill the center hole with diameter of the shaft

Get a office thumb tack and make a punctured hole outwards.

do not make the hole to big or small...

Use anything at home that is recyclable like old door knob.
I used an old door knob ring cover. It can be seen with the pictures in this step.

Step 5: Connect the Motor

If the motor has a screw slot you can just screw it.

then super glue the terminal block to the shaft of the motor.

test it in high speed if the terminal block flies out.

*note: use safety gear.

Step 6: Assembly

Put all necessary holes with a bolt and a nut

just follow the images with each step

Step 7: Done

Just connect a power supply to the Motor to let it spin

To use this machine boil sugar in a pan then place the liquified sugar into the center of the spinner.

Let the syrup cool off before placing into the spinner

Now you made a sweet candy with recycled materials

enjoy your cotton candy spinner!
