Introduction: DIY an Attractive Wooden Remote Control Car for Kids

This is an Instructable coaching how to make a remote control wooden car for kids. These DIY Kits can improve your kid’s hands-on ability and train their three-dimensional imagination ability. It can also be very convenient for the parents and the STEM teacher to use this car toy to conduct a science education for the kids on how Radio Frequency Transmission works. The communication frequency is about 27MHz per second.

Materials:

5 x Double-side Tape

1 x Plastic Transmission Wheel

1 x RF Receiver Module

Step 1: Glue All the Accessories of the Chassis

Please Follow from image 1 to image 5 to form the chassis. And mind that the axles hole in each cuboid wood stick should be parallel to the chassis board and as shown in image 5, the extended length is about 0.98IN or 25mm. Please note that the school glue may need 5 to 10 minutes to dry.

Step 2: Assemble the T-shape Support Board

Follow from image 6 to image 8 to assemble the T-shape support board. Insert the long cylinder stick into the hole of the support board. If joining part is loosen, you should scribble some school glue around there and wait until the glue dried.

Step 3: Glue the Tail to the Chassis

Scribble some glue on the bottom surface of the rhomboid block and get it adhered to the cuboid block as shown in image 10. Then scribble some glue to the surface of the rhomboid block as shown in image 11 and stick it to the position as shown in image 12. Please wait for about 5 to 10 minutes until the school glue dried.

Step 4: Paste the Double-side Tapes to the Corresponding Area

Rip off the covering from from one arbitrary side of the double-side tape and then paste it to the place as shown in image 14. Please note that the covering on the other side should be reserved.

Step 5: Install the Motor

As shown in image 15, install the transmission wheel to the motor.

As shown in image 16, install the motor to the plastic motor holder.

As shown in image 17, pass the two zip cable ties through the holes in the motor holder.

As shown in image 18, fix the motor to the extended area against the chassis and cut off the excess zip cable ties.

Step 6: Install the RF Receiver Module and Battery Holder

Rip off the covering from the double-side tape on the support board and stick the RF receiver module to the surface of the tape. Just follow the same step to stick the battery holder to the surface of the chassis. Next is to connect the wires, just follow from image 20 to image 23 to finish this step. When connecting the battery holder with the RF receiver module, the red wire is connected with the red wire while the black wire is connected with the black wire. And you must make sure you have ripped off some skin of the wires to leave enough length of bare wire before you twist the corresponding wires to be connected, or it may cause poor contact and will not work in the final step.

Step 7: Install the Antenna to the RF Emission Control Board

Take support board down and use a screw to drill a little hole in the board and then loosen the screw. Pass the rings of the antenna and the white wire through the screw and tighten the screw. You should put the board onto an unwanted stuff such as magazine before you tighten the screw to prevent it break the surface of your desk as I marked out in image 25.

Step 8: Install the Big Transmission Wheel

As shown in image 28, pass the axle through the hole in the wood stick and then insert the axle into the hole of the big white wheel. Place the rubber ring between the white wheel and the wood stick. Use two hands to clamp the both sides of white wheel and then give it a hard press to walk the axle through the two holes in both sides of the chassis stick.

Step 9: Install the Rear Axle and Sleeves

Put the rear axle through the two holes as shown in image 32. And then set the four sleeves to all the axles respectively.

Step 10: Install the Four Wheels

To lean the car sideways and then clamp the side stick to give it a hard press to insert the axle into the wheel. Just repeat this step to install the other wheels. After all the wheels get installed, you need to adjust the gaps between the wheels and the near side of the car to make sure all the wheels can move flexibly.

Step 11: Assemble the RF Emission Module

Paste double-side tape to the wood plate and rip off the covering from the tape. Stick the RF Emission module to it. Use a screw to drill a little bit of hole and loosen the screw. Pass the both rings of the antenna and white wire through the screw and tighten it. Next is to stick the battery holder to the other surface of the wood plate by the double-side tape. Before you connect the battery holder with the emission module, you should get a pliers to rip off the skin of the wire and make sure to have enough length of bare wires to twist with each other or it may cause poor contact that the emission module may not work.

Step 12: Try It

Up to now this DIY project is well done!!! Install the AA batteries to the two battery holders and play the fun toy with your kids.
