Introduction: Dollar Store Gift Idea: Personalized Notebook

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

What's more fun than adding a bit of sparkle to a plain old notebook, especially when you plan on making this as a gift for someone. I did this for my friend's daughter's birthday. Now, let's see how you can do it, just like how I did it!

Step 1: Materials

To make this fun dollar store project, you will need:

  • a composition notebook
  • glitter paper
  • glitter duct tape
  • peel & stick fur
  • foam letter stickers
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • other embellishments, like butterflies, pearls, or rhinestones

Step 2: Prep Notebook

First, lay out the notebook, and put a piece of glitter duct tape along the spine. If you need to stick it down with a bit of hot glue, you can also do that. I chose, for this notebook, a dark purple glitter tape.

Step 3: Cover Notebook

Next, cover the front of the notebook with a piece of glitter paper. Mine came as peel & stick, so I just had to peel the paper off and stick it to the front of the notebook. For this notebook, I chose a light purple front.

Step 4: Add Name

Now, use the letter stickers to spell out the name of the person you are giving this notebook to on a piece of fur, and stick it all to the front of the notebook. This part is all about experimentation, because you can position the name in any direction, depending on the size of the stickers, and the number of letters in the name that you choose.

Step 5: Finish Off

Finally, to finish off, you can add whatever embellishments are appropriate to the mood of your notebook. I added pink butterflies, pearls, and silver rhinestones to the front of this notebook, so that it looks more 3-dimensional!

Step 6: Complete!

Now, the rewardee will be able to write their secrets, homework assignments, and more with this specially designed masterpiece!
