Introduction: Easy Dog Cookie Treats

About: I'm me!!

These are easy treats you can make at home, with just 3 ingredients, a small food processor, and an oven. I find them great for recall work as they are very fragrant and our dogs seem to really like them. If your dog likes peanut butter/peanut flavored treats and hot dogs, it should love these.

Some general warnings:

They do contain wheat, peanuts, and beef(assuming you use beef hot dogs) if your dog has any allergies to these you should probably not use this recipe... however otherwise these are safe for dogs.

These treats are rich, so like any rich dog treat try not to over treat just like people when we eat to much junk food it can make your dog a little nauseous.

Also make sure the peanut butter you use does not contain Xylitol, I do mention later in the instructable I use peanut butter that you have to mix by hand, the ingredients should literally just have peanuts, peanut oil, and or salt. Xylitol is NOT safe for dogs even in small quantities

Step 1: Ingredients and Supplies

You will need..

2 - Good quality hot dogs, I find my dogs prefer the beef hot dogs over chicken and turkey ones.

1/4 Cup - Peanut butter (I like using peanut butter that you have to mix by hand, should just be 2 ingredients peanuts, peanut oil)Make sure it does NOT have Xylitol

1/3 Cup - All purpose flour

and..

A small food processor

a metal fork, or something to mix things with

a rubber spatula

a cookie sheet

something to lightly grease said cookie sheet

measuring cups

an oven

a small/medium mixing bowl

Step 2: Puree the Hot Dogs... Yum

Take your two hot dogs and break or chop them into smaller bits.

Next use the food processor to puree them as best you can. Should form a sort of globby hot dog paste, which we probably find disgusting, however our dogs may say otherwise.

Use a spatula to scoop said hot dogs into the mixing bowl.

Step 3: Add Peanut Butter to the Hot Dog Mush.. Also Preheat Oven

now is a good time to get the oven preheating to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit

In the meantime..

add 1/4 cup peanut butter to hot dogs and mix

Step 4: Adding the Flour

Add 1/3 cup flour to the mixing bowl, mix in the flour as best you can with a fork. You should have a lumpy flour-y mixture at this point

To finish the mixture start kneading and working the dough with your hand until it is packed and smooth.

Step 5: Getting Ready to Bake and Baking

Very lightly grease a cookie sheet.

Then roll dough into ~1in dough balls, and place evenly throughout sheet, and then pat them down slightly.

Once oven is preheated, bake the cookies for 10 minutes.

Step 6: And We Wait...

And wait, and wait.. for the longest 10 minutes of our doggy life...

Step 7: Ding! Time to Take Them Out

After they have baked, take them out and be careful as they will be hot. This means they will have to cool so they do not burn our hopeful dog's mouth.. which means more waiting....

Also they store best in the fridge in a sealed container or bag.

Step 8: And Finally We Can Share Said Treats With Our Dogs.

Much to their enjoyment..
