Introduction: Easy Tissue Paper Coasters

These coasters look great, but they are unbelievably quick and simple to make! Because of this, they are ideal wedding favors (create some to match your theme, then send them home with guests afterwards) or as last minute gifts!

Tissue paper is available in a huge range of patterns these days - find some you like and away you go!

Step 1: Gather Materials

You will need:

  • Patterned tissue paper of your choice (I picked up this patchwork pattern at Hobbycraft in the UK)
  • A ceramic tile
  • ModPodge or PVA glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors

Step 2: Cut Tissue to Size

First, cut the tissue paper to the same size as the tile - mine was 3 3/4 inches square. Tissue paper has a tendancy to rip, especially if using a knife and ruler, so use sharp scissors and go slow. If you do end up with tiny tears it won't matter too much though.

Step 3: Apply ModPodge

Apply a layer of ModPodge or PVA liberally across the entire surface of the tile. Carefully layer your tissue paper on top, being careful not to rip or tear it in the process. Apply another layer of ModPodge or PVA and leave to dry.

Step 4: Seal

Once the coaster is dry, apply a further layer of ModPodge or varnish to seal - varnish is more hardwearing, if you have some. Once this has dried, your coaster is complete!
