Supplies

4x 12"x12" 22 gauge sheet metal - https://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-12-in-x-12-in-22-Gauge-Weldable-Sheet-56034/100237896

1x 1mm foam - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JK4TK5J?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

1x kapton tape

1x Copper tape

Some wire (cat5 ethernet wire)

Solder iron

Step 1: Solder Wire to L-Tek Controller

  1. Remove the upper right idle panel with a screw driver
  2. Locate the 3 pad on the controller to solder 4 wires (two on the ground pad). See image.
  3. Route the wire along the path of the existent wire.

For wire, you can use ethernet wire. Make sure to use the soft type. The wire should be long enough to reach both idle panels.

Step 2: Building the Sensor Pad

  1. Take two sheet metals and cut to size (10 7/8" x 10 7/8"). You can use circular saw or sheet metal scissor.
  2. Driver 4 holes. Using the panel board as guide, mark them and drill with 3/8" drill bit.
  3. Sand the edge
  4. On each edge, put Kapton tape over it
  5. For the one of the sheet metal, cut corner off at diagonal (right after drilled hole). See picture above. Then using Kapton tape, tape around the edge. This is to avoid contact with the top sheet metal.
  6. Cut a notch on the side where the wire is under it. Then using copper tape to attach the ground to the sheet metal on the bottom side
  7. Place the sheet metal down as shown above (with its cutted off corner in place)
  8. Cut 1" width foam (1mm thickness) and place on top of it at the corner and edge. See picture.
  9. Place the other sheet metal on top and cut a notch to attach the wire
  10. Attach one of the non-ground wire to the top of this sheet metal.
  11. Re-attached the idle panel back.

Now test the sensor panel with Step Mania software. If the panel contact when you tighten the screw, remove the panel again and add 1.5" square of form on that corner.

If you cut the sheet metal with a scissor, make sure to flatten the sheet metal with a hammer.

Now, repeat for the other panel.

Step 3: Work Great (see Video)
