My son gets really excited about seeing the stars at night. But since we're in a relatively urban area with lots of light pollution we don't get to see to many of them at night. About 2 or 3 from his room, that is. So I decided that what he could use is a starry mobile that glows in the dark to hang in his room. So even on overcast nights there will still be a few stars to look at.

Step 1: Supplies

There's an short way and a long way to do this. Here are the materials for each

Short way
- Card stock
- Krylon® Glowz®

Long way
- Krylon® Dual™ Paint + Primer
- Krylon® Glowz®
- Krylon® Glitter Blast™
- Krylon® Crystal Clear Gloss

I went the long way, but it's pretty easy to see how it can be shortened

Step 2: Cut Out the Stars

Normally, I would cut stars out of card stock and use a hole puncher to put the thread through. But since I have access to a laser cutter, I cut lots of stars of different sizes out of hardboard. To be honest, the end result isn't all that different, I just wanted an excuse to use the laser cutter. Plain old scissors and paper would work beautifully as well.

Step 3: Paint, Paint, and Paint Again

Step 4: Hang It All

Cut lengths of thread for all of the stars, tying one end to the star and the other to what you want to hang the mobile from. I'm using a crochet hoop. It's nice and round and was only a dollar.

To get the stars arranged how I wanted them, I put the hoop on the floor and put the stars as far away from the hoop as I wanted to hang them.
