Introduction: Gmas Grumpy Gingersnaps

About: Who reads these?

These ginger snaps are no ordinary ginger snaps.  My great grandmother made these when ever my grandfather(her son) was grumpy.  She made him watch as she made them and joked around the whole time making him happier. So that's the story now lets make some snaps.

Step 1: Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4cup  molasses
2 cups flour
2 teaspoon baking soda
1.5 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
additional sugar

Step 2: Making the Mix

For equipment you will need a large bowl and a mixer.  First you must cream the 3/4 cups of shortening with the cup of sugar so it looks like one ingredient.  I did this step by hand but its very hard to get off anything.  Then beat in one egg and molasses(since the molasses sticks I added a little extra to the measuring cup).  Now combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.  The main image is what the mix should look like when you are all done.

Step 3: Pre Baking

Pre heat the oven to 350F, and put some or the additional sugar on a plate.
This step can take some time.  First grease 2 cookie sheets use some shortening for best results(Pam makes it taste different).  Grab a little mix like a teaspoon full and roll it into a ball.  Then flatten a little in your palm and dip one side in the sugar.  Place the sugared snap sugar side up on the cookie sheet and tamp it down a little with something flat.  Once this step is done you are ready to bake.

Step 4: Bake

Now all you have to do is bake them in the oven.  Be sure to bake them on the TOP rack or they will burn.  Depending on how you like your snaps cook them from 6 to 11 minutes.  Cook them for 6 minutes if you want them soft, or cook them for 11 minutes if you want them crispy.  If you have any questions pm me i'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
