Introduction: Graveyard Brownies

About: I consider myself a designer and a builder, I am currently working for an architecture firm in San Francisco and on my free time putzing around in my garage. I enjoy sharing my creations, but mostly I am here …

These Halloween treats are as much fun to make as they are to eat. Who doesn't like a little something extra with their brownies? I know we do!

Step 1: Gathering Supplies

These supplies are fairly simple. A box of brownies (what ever brand and flavor you prefer), Milano cookies (in any flavor you prefer), Oreos, black and green icing. You can get creative with your garnishes, but this is what we used. You can add candy pumpkins, candy corn, or skeletons to your creations.

Step 2: Making the Brownies

We never begin any baking in this house without a glass of milk. :) Then we make the brownies according to the package. Don't forget to taste test! (For quality assurance purposes of course)

Step 3: Making the 'dirt'

We added crushed Oreos to our brownies to look like dirt. They work best if you crush them really well, using any method that works for you. We happened to find that a potato masher worked! You don't need too many Oreos. We ended up with an abundance of crushed Oreos, which also ended up being used in taste testing.

Step 4: Making the Tombstone

Each milano cookie is going to serve as a tombstone. We used the black icing to write on the tombstone. You can write anything you want! We stuck to 'RIP.' The icing we purchased came in a container that dispensed really fast, making it hard to write so precisely. So I put some in a plastic bag, cut a very small hole in the corner, and used it kind of like a pastry bag to write on the cookies.

Step 5: Decorating the Brownies

I wanted to add the Oreos to look like fresh dirt. They weren't sticking too well, so I put some of the black icing down first to make the crushed Oreos stick to the brownies.

Step 6: Attaching the Tombstone

The milanos are pretty big, so I cut a bit off the bottom before sticking it in the brownie.

Step 7: Adding Finishing Touches.

I wanted to add some 'grass' to our grave sites. I used the green icing for this.

Step 8: Finished Product!

Leave them in the pan, or remove the pieces to decorate. Either way, they are super cute to take to parties and are a very versatile Halloween dessert!
