This isn't as much an instructable as it is sharing what I made since it's pretty much one of a kind.

I love to dumpster dive (my wife disapproves) and one man's trash.... Well you know the rhyme.

I found this little beauty and it was begging to be re-purposed so I had to oblige.

My office needed a reading lamp and I thought this would be perfect.

Step 1: The Base

I had some cherry hardwood in the shop and set about making a suitable base.

I shortened the pole and hollowed out the space beneath the base for wiring and drilled a hole for the cord.

Step 2: The Lamp Mount

As for the lamp mount, I got a 2" to 3/4" reducer made out of PVC that fit nicely in the shortened pole.

I added a short piece of 3/4" pipe that fit the bottom of the lamp socket.

I drilled 2 1/4" holes at 90 degree angles to hold the all-thread for the shade.

It's held in place with some 1/4-20 nuts.

I modified the shade by removing the original bottom and top sections of plexiglass which held the lamp socket to let out more light.

The shade had several hairline cracks that were glued with Krazy Glue.

It's just right for reading at the couch and one of a kind for the man cave.
