Have you always wondered where to start when it comes to buying a sewing machine?

In this episode, Sandra gives her daughter, Kim, advice on what type of machine to buy and the places where she can look for one.

Step 1: Sewing Machine Dealers

Interview different dealers in your area. Ideally it would be good if they taught classes on site, so that when you are ready to learn more, you know of somewhere to go. Make sure that they are really helpful.

Step 2: Choose a Simple Machine

Get a machine that is simple and does not have too many bells and whistles. The machine should have the basics: a straight stitch, a zig-zag and a buttonhole.

Step 3: Used Machines

If you decide to buy a used machine, try it out first and make sure that all of the parts are in working order.

Step 4: Where to Buy a Machine

Sandra recommends that you buy a machine through a dealer, make sure that it has a book and that the dealer is there for any service that is needed.

Step 5: More Information

Once you have purchased a machine, read Sandra ’s article, “Taming the Sewing Machine“.
