Introduction: How to Build an Adjustable Standing Desk
Sitting for long periods of time is never a good idea; it can lead to or contribute to many health issues including obesity, increased risk of cancer, neck strain, and back pain. But for some, it’s a part of their daily life, primarily those working a desk job that requires sitting at a computer all day. While it is recommended to go for walks and take breaks throughout the day, some may just not have the time to do that. That’s where an adjustable height table mechanism comes in, letting you stand and stretch your legs without leaving your desk and losing valuable work time. We will cover how installing our Solo Ryzer Frame can turn a conventional table into an adjustable standing desk with easy up/down motion control!
Step 1: Getting Familiar With the Requirements and Specs
While a drill can help to make things convenient, all you need for your DIY standing desk is our Solo Ryzer Frame, a tabletop, and a screwdriver – that’s it! Our table lift comes with everything needed for installation including all the required screws, brackets, and cable clips for hiding the wires (tabletop and screwdriver not included).
Before starting the assembly procedure, take a look at some important specifications and requirements of our Solo Ryzer Frame to understand its capabilities:

Step 2: Assembling the Desk Frame
Once you are familiar with the specifications and found them suitable, start with assembling the desk frame by using our Solo Ryzer Frame User Manual for reference on the full step-by-step assembly procedure. Assembling the unit should take 20 minutes or less. Once it’s assembled, make sure to test the remote control by raising and lowering the motorized table lift with the UP and DOWN buttons. Step 3: Placing the Frame and Tabletop Together
With the motorized desk lift assembled, you’ll now want to flip it over and place it on the underside of your chosen tabletop. We recommend having at least two people to flip the two-legged desk lift mechanism set as it is quite heavy.
Step 4: Positioning and Securing the Tabletop
Once the frame is on the chosen tabletop, adjust the width of the table lift to fit your tabletop using the crossbar center rails. If you have a Progressive Desk tabletop, use the M6x13 Machine Screws included in the tabletop packaging. Line up the desk frame with the predrilled holes on the underside of the tabletop and insert all machine screws before using the Allen wrench to tighten each of them.
If you have your own tabletop, position the desk frame so that the tabletop extends 1.5" beyond the side brackets. Next, use a screwdriver or power drill to install the 7 included pieces of S5x20 Wood Screws into the hole positions.
Step 5: Mounting the Remote and Control Box
Now it’s to time to secure the control box and hand remote to the underside of the desktop. Slide the control box into the frame end CB as seen in the user manual. You may then place the remote wherever you prefer and install it on the tabletop using a screwdriver or power drill and two S5x16 Wood Screws. Next, use the included cable clips to secure the wires so they are hidden from view and aren’t hanging loose from the desktop once the standing desk mechanism is flipped over.
Step 6: Flipping the Desk Into Position
With everything secured and ready to go, you can flip the fully assembled desk lift kit over. We recommend having at least two people for this. Before it’s ready for use you must reset the table lift mechanism. To do this just hold the DOWN button on the remote until the lift reaches its lowest point (slightly rises then stops). Once this happens, release the DOWN button and your standing computer desk is ready for use.
Step 7: Program Your Preset Positions
Depending on the remote you choose, the Solo Ryzer Frame also features the ability to program preset positions so the lift will automatically move to your own custom positions with the press of a button. All you have to do is find your desired height and press the “M” button followed by a number 1-4. With that, your preset position is saved to whatever number you chose.
