This is a tutorial on how to make an eyeshadow brush, just as easily you could make powder brushes, blush brushes, angled eye shadow brushes, lip brushes, eyeliner brushes, fan brushes, kabuki brushes, foundation brushes)

Why would you want to make your own eyeshadow brush?
- Its fairly simple to do, and inexpensive
- could be a craft project (children always want makeup of their own)
- customize your makeup brush to your style of application
- its eco-friendly, the makeup industry is huge (in 2006 it was a $230 billion industry http://www.forbes.com/2006/02/08/best- selling-cosmetics_cx_me_0209feat_ls.html)

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

You will need:
- Scissors
- A pencil
- needle nose pliers
- an electric shaver
- Xacto knife
- fresh cut of hair (washed with organic/natural shampoo)

Step 2: Prepare Your Pencil

Remove the eraser from the pencil, I used an Xacto (is there anything safer to use? IDEAS people!)

Step 3: Put the Hair Into the Eraser Holder

This is pretty difficult it will probably take you a bunch of tries. I found the best way to do this was pinch the hair closest to the end that I was inserting into the eraser holder. Also its easier if you hold the pencil with your three bottom fingers and pinch the metal eraser holder together with your index finger and your thumb. (ahhhh the greatness of the opposable thumb)

Step 4: Secure the Hair Into Place

Use the needle nose pliers to secure the hair in the holder

Step 5: Shave Your Eyeshadow Brush to Appropriate Length

You can find links on youtube or google images to refer to what an eyeshadow brush should look like.

I think the most surface area of hair ends picks up the most amount of product, especially useful when sweeping one color across your eyelid, but you also want a sharp edge for applying color in the crease of your eye (between eyelid and eyesocket?)

Step 6: Marvel Your Creation!

They look pretty similar to me! For it to work better I think it needs to be denser. Try it out, or don't try it out just let me know how you think I could improve this design. Please comment on my youtube video or in the comments below.
