Introduction: How to Make a Press Kit for Your Movie

So you want to publicize your movie and get those big executives to fund your idea.  Well you are gonna need a press kit that will give them confidence and trust in your abilities as well as WOW them.  Shown below is a highly successful press kit make note of the fancy case.  A bad press kit is put in a bad looking case and not very well organized to show off the best features.

Step 1: Step 1: Brainstorm

Step one is very simple however usually one of the most time consuming tasks of making a press kit.  You are gonna have to get a sheet of paper and come up with what you want in your press kit that will maximize your chances of success.

Step 2: Step 2: Cast and Crew Information

Your gonna want to get all the people work done first because this is difficult depending how many cast and crew you have in your film.  Your gonna want photos of all of your cast, crew in the production and a rough biography about them preferably based around the genre of your movie.  This will be used to create a cast and crew bio.  Also don't forget to include yourself when making the bio's because your important to. Make sure to get a list of everyone involved in your film so you don't forget anyone.

Step 3: Step 3: Assembling the Bios

Now you are gonna want to make a bio for your cast and crew after gathering all of the information you needed.  Remember the biographies should be very brief but interesting.  An idea is to add one question pertaining to your film genre on each of the bios.  IF you were making a horror movie "what is your favorite horror movie" would be a good question.  The actor biographies should include previous roles in films (If had any),  awards may have won and stage work.  For crew biographies they should include work related experience and other productions they worked on and their position (if was good position).  That is all you need for the biographies.

Step 4: Step 4: FAQ

Your gonna want to think of some questions that everyone keeps asking you about your movie.  This will be unique to each movie depending on what people are asking.  You will then take 10 of these questions and make a FAQ's sheet.

Step 5: Step 5: Pictures

Get pictures of everyone involved in the production of your movie and clip it on to the bio's.  This allows people to put a face with text and lets them develop a sense of knowing the people in your film.

Step 6: Step 6: Reviews & Endorsements

Include all of the reviews you have received and endorsements especially from well known people or companies.  This will make your movie seem successful because if a successful person says it is good then it has to be good.  Also those people or companies didn't give you quotes about your movie for nothing because if you use their quote it builds them up to.

Step 7: Step 7: Digital Age

Create an electronic press kit with all sorts of things relating to your film.  If you have original music you could include some of the songs that you have used in your movie.  A trailer of your movie is always a good idea to put into your press kit because it shows the rough quality of the movie.  Behind the scenes footage is also a good idea along with some never gonna be released bloopers.  The reason you want never gonna be released is people like exclusivity and when they feel like their special your more likely to get what you need from those executives.  Shown below is a detailed way to set up your movie and layout the pictures along with the biographies of your cast.

Step 8: Step 8: the Toys

This is the fun part and you even get to make some toys.  The gimmicks part of a press kit is often the most fun of the whole thing and the most challenging to get the ideas for it.  You need cool exclusive limited edition promotional items to put into your press kit.  Custom made pens from your movie or a custom made DVD case for your movie and even figurines of something significant in your movie are all good ideas.  Also if you have a movie poster make sure to include a smaller version of it in your press kit or at least a digital one.  The main point is make it fun and interesting and make it collectible because people like collectible.  Who knows if you make a huge blockbuster those pens may be worth 1000,s of dollars.

Step 9: Step 9: Fancy Assembly

It is now time to make everything you have done until now not look like a random pile of stuff.  This is the most important step because this is what people will see first.  You are gonna want to get a fancy looking folder for all of your paper stuff and maybe a fancy case to put your gimmicks in depending on how big your gimmicks are.  You should also arrange it so that the interesting WOW stuff is seen first out of everything in your press kit.

Step 10: Step 10: WOW Time

It is now time to start mailing out your finished press kits and hope for whatever answer you want to hear from the people you are mailing it to.  I hope this guide has made making a press kit a lot easier on your life.
