Winter is ending. Spring is almost here. When Spring comes I love to start some plants from seed in my garden. This year I decided to be prepared and not lose two weeks of valuable growing time by starting my seeds indoors, and that way they are healthy and ready to go by the time of first planting. I used basic tools and wiring techniques to create this cheap and effective cfl grow light to begin the seed sprouts and seeding processes.

All in all, This project cost me about 26$

Step 1: Gather Your Parts

-Aluminum snap lock dryer pipe
-Two daylight spiral bulbs(preferably around 500 lumens)
-Lamp cord
-A 3 hole metal outlet cover
-Round metal outlet box
-2 out door sockets
-Wire ties

(Optional)
Electrical tape
Zip ties
Short copper cable

Step 2: Begin Construction

Measure out the direct center of the inside of the vent. Drill a hole large enough for your lamp cord to fit through. Next place your outlet box directly on top of the hole in the position you prefer.

Step 3: Connect Wires

After attaching your sockets to your plate cover, attach the two white wires together and the two black wires together, or whatever colors they happen to be. Then connect each segment of the lamp cord to these bundles. Twist tightly, then put wire connectors on and twist again.

Step 4: Screw in Base and Ground

Screw in base of outlet to reflective dryer vent.

optional but recommended: attach a (ground) wire to the green galvanized screws to keep yourself safe from electrical shocks in case of a shorting out or other problem.
