Introduction: JELLY JAR SNOW GLOBES
I've always been fascinated by snow globes, especially the Christmas ones. They all look so comforting and festive. So, one day as I was cleaning out my refrigerator I found a few things, in glass jars, that I needed to throw away. So, I discarded the contents and washed the jars with hot soapy water and removed the labels. That was the start of my snow globe making! I had a few things laying around leftover from previous craft projects so all I had to do was buy a few inexpensive items. It will take 2 days to make these so the glue can dry but once done.... you'll be amazed as to how beautiful and festive they are!
Step 1: SUPPLIES
Items reclaimed:
Miscellaneous Christmas craft items (that will fit inside a small jar)
Recycled jelly or pickle jars (with a one piece lid)
Additional items:
Small white floral foam balls (I bought 2 small sizes)
Distilled water
Waterproof craft glue
Glitter
Glycerin
Sharp knife
Step 2: CUT FOAM BALLS IN HALF AND .......
Using the sharp knife, carefully cut foam balls in half. This will be your "base" to glue your other items and creates a "snow" effect on the bottom of the snow globe. Make sure the diameter of the foam ball is small enough so you can still screw the lid onto the jar. Attach the half foam ball to the inside of the lid with waterproof glue.
Step 3: ATTACH HOLIDAY MINIATURES TO......
Using waterproof glue, carefully attach holiday miniatures to the foam ball that is glued to the inside of the lid. Don't worry if there is glue showing (1st picture). It will dry clear (2nd picture) and you'll never see it once the project is done. Make sure miniatures are attached in a way so they don't interfere with the jar once it is screwed on. Let dry overnight.
Step 4: FILL JAR WITH DISTILLED WATER ....
Fill the reclaimed jar with distilled water. Leave enough headspace for when you screw on the lid. You don't want the jar to overflow when you attach the lid......
Step 5: ADD GLYCERINE
Add a few drops of glycerin and gently stir. This will help suspend the glitter particles in the water when you shake your snow globe. It is also a preservative that helps keep your figurines intact.
Step 6: ADD GLITTER
Carefully add glitter to the jar. (Amount varies with size of jar.) Gently stir until glitter is well distributed....
Step 7: GLUE LID ONTO JAR
Place waterproof glue around the outside rim of the reclaimed jar. Carefully place the lid on the jar (decorative side facing down) and screw on tightly. DO NOT TURN THE SNOW GLOBE UPRIGHT!!! LET THE ASSEMBLED SNOW GLOBE DRY UPSIDE DOWN OVERNIGHT!!!! Wipe off any glue that has dripped onto the outside of the jar.
Step 8: IT'S DONE!!!! ENJOY!!!
Turn right side up..... shake ...... and enjoy!!!
