Move on, Kim Kardashian highlighting & contouring! The hottest makeup trend sparked by the Kardashian-Jenner clan (or their team of mega-talented MUA's, rather) is now Kylie Jenner's matte, nude, overdrawn 90's-style lip and fresh-faced SoCal babe look. Grab your brushes and let's go!

Step 1: Base

Start by applying a matte, full-coverage foundation all over in a shade slightly warmer than your natural skintone. I'm using Estee Lauder Doublewear in Dawn, applied with a damp Beauty Blender.

Subtly highlight your face by blending yellow-toned concealer (like NYX HD Concealer in Yellow, blended out with a Real Techniques contour brush) beneath your eyes down to the tops of your cheekbones.

Set the highlighted areas with Ben Nye Banana Powder (a trick learned from big sister Kim), then use a finishing powder like Make Up For Ever HD powder all over on a big fluffy powder brush.

Step 2: Bronze, Highlight, & Contour

Instead of the hardcore cream contouring that Kim uses to get those knife-sharp cheekbones, Kylie prefers a much softer look. I used Benefit's Hoola bronzer liberally over my cheekbones and around my hairline and jawline to imitate her beach-babe look, then used Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Incandescent Light (similar to MAC's Soft & Gentle) on the tops of my cheekbones, and a bit of MAC Emphasize powder on the sides of my nose and the hollows of my cheekbones to gently contour.

Step 3: Blush

Kylie's blush is always matte and barely-there. I used a peachy-bronze color, Kat Von D's Wish (similar to MAC's Warm Soul) on only the outer edges of my cheekbones for a natural flush.

Step 4: Eyes

Kylie's eyes look almost-bare, as the focus is on those giant overdrawn lips of hers! I'm just going to follow our theme here and do some light contouring & highlighting.

Using a large, fluffy crease brush, brush a warm light brown shade (Lt Brown from the Lorac Pro 2 Palette, in my case) into the crease & blend towards the browbone.

Using a medium shadow brush, apply a warm nude shade (Lorac Pro 2 Buff) all over the lid.

Using a detail brush, apply a warm shimmery beige (Lorac Pro 2 Beige) to the inner corners.

Apply a nude pencil, like the NYX Wonder Pencil, to the inner rims of your eyes to emulate that wide-eyed look.

Apply a small, thin black line in the upper lashline to define lashes. Benefit's They're Real! Pushup Liner works fantastically for this, or really any gel liner on a really thin brush.

Step 5: Lashes

Continuing the retro 90's theme, Kylie is often spotted wearing strip lashes instead of the much more natural-looking individual lashes or lash extensions favored nowadays. I like these La Creme #73's, as they have varying lengths and appear somewhat wispy on the eyes. For instructions on how to apply strip lashes, see my Brows, Cheeks, Lips & Lashes tutorial.

After applying, be sure to blend with tons of black waterproof mascara, and don't forget the bottom lashes. My current favorite mascara concoction is both a base and final layer of Benefit's They're Real!, with a layer of Bad Gal sandwiched in between.

Step 6: Dat Lip!

Alright, we've made it to the feature that's gonna make or break your Kylie Jenner costume-- dat lip!

Soooo many steps. Y'all ready?

K. First, use something like Mac Prep & Prime all over your lips so everything goes on real smooth. Then, apply concealer or something light-colored to the center of your lips-- I used Benefit's Stay Don't Stray, which has the added benefit of keeping lipstick from wearing away or transferring, but you can use whatever concealer you love or something like the NYX Jumbo Shadow Stick in Milk.

Now, grab a nice Your-Lips-But-Better shade of lipliner (something in the mauvey-brown range, like NYX Natural) and line your lips like a normal human being. Now, sloooooowly start building that overdrawn lip one line at a time. One. Line. At. A. Time. Soooo slowly. And keep that overdrawing to the cupid's bow and other central areas of the lips, NOT the corners, cuz nobody wants that blowfish-clown-mouth situation happening on their face.

Fill in everything with a nude rosey-mauve lipstick. I'm using Kat Von D Studded Kiss in Lovecraft. (Remember when the Kylie Jenner Lip Combo Theory was more hotly debated than the "magic bullet" theory? That was cray. Kylie's makeup artist later revealed she uses MAC Whirl & Twig, but you do you, boo. I definitely also see some Stone on dem lips in certain photos.)

Lightly trace a brownish lipliner along the bottom center of your lip. I'm using MAC Stone. Rub a lil iridescent shimmer along the top of that fake cupid's bow too. I'm using Benefit High Brow Glow pencil. This is just more highlighting and contouring to make those lips pop.

Step 7: You Done!

Aight, you done! Now go yell at your mom for calling you out for stealing her designer jeans or take tons of selfies or "write" a children's book or whatever it is that Ms. Jenner does with her life.
