Introduction: LED Light for Close Up Pictures

Hi, folks!
It was 0ctober,2008. Fran just get a new E410. And he wanted to take extreme close ups.
Well, without proper light it was only wasting time. And, after collecting commercial offers - twin strobes, O-ring strobes, etc.,hundred bucks at least, I take pencil and scratch idea. Picture is 4:3 format. Lens has 65 mm diameter. And, light has to fulfill each corner. Choosing direction from source and aiming according wishes is must. Close ups are on distance from 10 cm to 25cm. We need much light. LED's are week. Well, now you can understand drawing.

Step 1: Prototype Mask

It is a drawing 1:1 for drill the holes in Plexiglas (Lexan). You simply stick this paper on Plexiglas an you have marked point for drilling. Inside circles and corners are drilled on center direction to achieve concentrated light.

Step 2: Assembling

Holes are ready. 5mm led I started to insert. 2 circles and 4 corner lights. Corner lights have straight direction and two circle light are directed to a "spot" cca 100mmm away.

Step 3: Finito

I would not describe to you how box is made.Lexan 4 mm and  I used a part of original sun hood. On the left side are 6 switches an plug in for external battery holder with 4 AA cells - which is located in pocket... :)

Step 4: Switches

Didn't I tell you? Ont left side (for left hand)  are 6 on/off  switches. 4 for corner LED's and in the middle 2 for circle LED's ... you can reorder  this as you wish. So you can have all on ON or each separately or... 6 on "N" combination..

Step 5: All ON!

Yeah! Wow!

Step 6: Lower, Right

If you prefer this direction...so you get shadows on object on left side...

Step 7: Two Circles

Well, it should be shadowless...

Step 8: 2+3

I like to have some shadows in upper right corner of my picture...artistic touch!

Step 9: Light 6500K

Daylight.

Step 10: Results

Combination of room light and our LED close up light...for testing.

Step 11: Picture I.

Olympus 20N. I think it is...good?

Step 12: Picture II.

More DOF. I think is better...?

What to say on end?   Imagine. Start. Work. Finish.      And let others to enjoy.

Sincerely,
Kresimir
