These bags are fun to make and a great way to express your style. They come out great in black and white or color. Book text, comic books, manga and music notes make great patterns.

THE FINISHED BAG DIMENSIONS, EXCLUDING THE STRAP:
about 15 inches x 11 inches x 3 inches wide at the bottom.

There is a ¼ in. seam allowance for all stitching with this pattern.

Step 1: Getting Ready

What you will need:

¾ yard of fabric

¾ yard of interfacing (thick filler)

8 sheets of inkjet printable sew on fabric

Printer

Sewing machine

Iron

Ironing board

Scissors

Pins

Pen or marker

Photo editing software

Use your photo editing software to create your pages. Two sheets each for the front, back, front flap, and shoulder strap. Each shoulder strap page will be cut into thirds so if you use photos adjust the size to make three columns.
With your fabric cut1 piece 2.75 in. x 63 in. (for the strap), 2 pieces 6 in. x 8 in. (for the pocket), and 3 pieces 11 in x 16.5 in. (for the front, back and flap).
With your interfacing cut 1 piece 2 in. x 63 in. (for the strap) and 3 pieces 11 in. x 16.5 in. (for the front, back and flap).

Step 2: The Shoulder Strap

1.Take your two printed strap sheets and cut them into thirds length wise. Making 6 pieces that are 2.75 in. x 11 in.

2.With your strap pieces arrange three from one page and stitch them together right sides facing each other.

3.Remember the way pieces need to face so you don’t stitch some on upside down.

4.After you have make 2 strap pieces from each page press the seams open and iron them smooth.

5.Stitch the tops of you straps together making so half of you strap is not upside down when you are wearing it. Now you should have a long printed fabric piece measuring 2.75 in. x 63 in.

6.Pin your fabric strap piece and your printed strap piece right side facing each other. Stitch along one long side. Press seams and iron smooth. Fold over .25 in. along the other long edges.

7.Pin your two folded over sides together with your interfacing in the middle. Pin and stitch along the side. Make a decorative stitch along the other side so they are even.

Step 3: Outside

With your printed sheets Pin 2 pieces together right sides facing each other. Stitch the pieces together creating 1 piece size 11 in x 16.5 in. Do this with six pieces making it 3 pieces. Press seams open and iron smooth.
To make the front flap Pin together the right sides of a fabric piece and a printed piece. Stitch around leaving 6 in. space at the top for turning (back stitching at the beginning and end to reinforce). Pin and stitch a piece of thick filler on one side. Mark the bottom corners for a rounded edge.
Trim around the rounded corners. Turn right side out and iron smooth.Pin printed side to a printed fabric piece centered and 2 in. from the top and stitch together.
Fold your flap pieces so it is not in your way and pin your printed fabric pieces together. Stitch around the sides and bottom leaving the top open.
Press the bottom and side together creating a triangle. Pin it together and make a 3 in line across the triangle corner. Stitch across the line and cut the triangles creating a flat bottom.

Step 4: Inside

Pin the 2 pocket pieces together right sides facing each other and stitch around pocket leaving a 2 in space for turning (backstitching at the beginning and end to reinforce). Trim the corners and turn the pocket right side out and iron smooth.
Pin your pocket to the right side of one of your fabric pieces. ( in the middle or side where ever you prefer to keep your pockets) Stitch around the sides and bottom of your pocket piece. Add extra stitching to create separating pockets.
Pin the right sides of your pocket fabric piece and a second fabric piece together. Stitch around the sides and bottom of this piece. Pin thick filler to each side and stitch around the sides and bottom again.
Press the bottom and side together creating a triangle. Pin it together and make a 3 in line across the triangle corner. Stitch across the line and cut the triangles creating a flat bottom.

Step 5: Putting It All Together

Pin the strap to your bag printed fabric sides facing each other and make adjustments to the strap size so it fits your body. (You might have to trim a few inches if you are small) Pin the strap in the middle of the side seams and stitch to the outer bag piece.
Turn your outer bag inside out and place it in your inside out inner bag and line up the seams. (right sides facing each other) Pin and stitch around the top of the bag leaving a 6 in. space for turning right side out (back stitching at the beginning and end to reinforce). After turning bag stitch up the hole and iron smooth.
