If you don't want your wee lad hyped up on romantically-themed sugar for Valentines day this year, here is an adorable alternative, that will give your little one a natural high, and give you a great photo opp! Using paper straws and scrapbook paper, make your child's valentine a memorable one with an adorable moustache pun.

Let's get started!

Step 1: Materials

For this project, you will need:

paper straws (or popsicle sticks)

scrap paper

scissors

hot glue gun (or double sided tape)

For the labels, you will need:

markers

scrap paper cut into circles or ovals

Step 2: Cutting Moustaches

Find a moustache template you like, and cut it out onto patterned paper. I found it easiest to fold the moustache pattern in half, and use that as my symmetrical template. I needed to make 20 of these for my son's class, so I repeated this process a few times.

Step 3: Glueing

Using a hot glue gun or double sided sticky tape, adhere the back of your moustache to one end of your straw/ popsicle stick.

Step 4: Creating Labels

Using plain construction paper, I cut out ovals for my labels. Then, lightly folding the paper lengthwise, I cut two small slits near both ends which will be used for attaching it to the straw.

Step 5: Writing Message

I used markers to write out the message, but as the last image in this step shows, you could also just print out a label and make the corresponding slots to slip through the straw.

It reads, "I moustache you a question: will you be my valentine?" or replace the last part with " will you be my friend?" which may be more appropriate for younger kids.
