Introduction: Nameplate for Kids Room

Hi All,

In this Instructables, I will share how made this nameplate for my niece.

Supplies

  • Small pebble (3d printed mine)
  • Acrylic paint (metallic or pearl)
  • Quick dry clay(mould-it)
  • Paintbrush
  • Plywood sheet (scrap)
  • Super glue

Step 1: Bird

  • I have 3d printed my pebble, you could just find a suitable pebble for the same
  • If you wish to print, please go to https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/stones-for-craft
  • Resize based on your need
  • Apply a thin coat of white cement and PVA glue
  • Let it dry
  • If you are using a stone/ pebble. then paint it white and let it dry for 1 hour
  • Draw the bird outline design
  • Using acrylic paints, paint the bird as shown
  • I have used
  • Red pearl paint
  • White pearl paint
  • Plain Yellow
  • and outline using black acrylic paint
  • Remember, the acrylic paint should not be dry and do not use water to thin the paint too much

Step 2: 3d Printing Name

  • I used MS PowerPoint to create and export the name as a png file
  • Then use online tools to convert PNG to SVG
  • I used https://convertio.co/png-svg/
  • Now import the SVG file to tinkercad
  • Adjust the height, width, and length as required and export as a STL file
  • Using the STL file 3d print the name
  • If you do not have a 3d printer, you can use clay as well

Step 3: Plywood Sheet

  • While the 3d printer is printing or you have kept the clay to dry
  • Paint the plywood sheet sky blue
  • You may have to apply 3 coats
  • Let it dry for 2 hours

Step 4: Clay Modelling

  • I am using a 2 part of resin clay called mould-it
  • One has to mix equal parts of resin + hardener
  • It takes 45 minutes to fully cure, so work fast
  • Using your hands and some modeling tools, make a tree branch, leaves, and flower petals as shown
  • Let it dry for 1 hour and then paint them
  • Remember to dry the clay on a different paper sheet, not on the nameplate. It will stick on the nameplate and is very difficult to remove.

Step 5: Final Assembly

  • Before we super glue, place all the components on the nameplate
  • Adjust the alignment, etc
  • I sometimes leave it, without gluing to see issues with clutter, misalignment, etc
  • Once I have made all the adjustments, I superglue each item
  • Let the super glue dry for 30 minutes
  • Then apply a coat of varnish
  • Using double side tape stick the nameplate on the desired kid's room
  • See them smiling and enjoy their joy
