Hello Instructables,

This is a piece I call Night Walker. I envisioned him to be an older gentleman walking outside his home looking for what ever spooked him. The lantern he is holding is suppose to resemble one of an older style. A older more orangey light bulb would be best for a flame kind of look. The lamp is made out of steel with an already assembled plug and wired light.

Tools Needed:

Welder (TIG in this case)

4 1/2 inch angle grinder

Drill

Hammer

Sheet metal roller (really any way to make the curves for the neck and head)

Torch

Materials Needed:

2" diameter steel pipe

About 1' x 3' 14 gauge sheet metal

2 - 1" x 2" quarter inch plate

18" of 1/4" x 1/4" square plate

14" of 1/4" x 1/4" square tube

12" of 1/2" round plate

4" of wire

1 light bulb kit

Step 1: Building the Lower Half

First off is making the lower body of the person with the pipe and capping the ends off with some 14 gauge steel. After welding the ends, I sanded the edges of the pipe and 14 gauge to make it smooth all the way around. Then I started to make the legs. When making the legs use the 1/4" x 1/4" square plat, you will have to cut it up into 4 equal sections. While cutting the legs make sure you get the angles right to make the bends in the knees. Now the feet are made out of the 1/4" plate with the fronts of them rounded. All is done for the lower half.

Step 2: Building the Upper Half

First I stared with the neck and head. The neck is rolled out of 14 gauge steel to have a diameter of about 1 1/4" and is welded to the top of the caped pipe. On top of the neck is a 2 1/2" diameter rolled 14 gauge head with two 14 gauge ends. Once the two ends are welded to the head one end was welded to the neck. After the neck and head was made the arms came next. The arms are made out of the 1/4" x 1/4" square tube. The tube needs to be cut into 4 equal sections and angled to the desired angles. The hands were than cut out of 14 gauge steel with a thumb and made to look more like mittens. After the cane and lantern were made the hands were bent to form to them. Now the hands and arms are made. I heated the 1/2" diameter round plate to form the cane and welded it to the hand.

Step 3: The Lantern

The lanterns main dimensions are 4" x 4" x 6". It is made out of 1/2" 14 gauge steel strips. You will need to cut 9 16" strips. For 5 of them equally bend in 4 places to make squares then weld the ends together. Now for the remaining 4 you will have to bend them in 3 places with two sides being 6" and the one side/top of lantern 4" long. Next I welded the 4 of them together with a 1 1/4" square at the top. Now after the main frame was built I evenly spaced the 5 4" x 4" squares in the frame and welded them in place. Lastly I bent the wire into a half circle to make a handle for the man to hold onto it and welded it to his hand.

Step 4: Adding the Light Kit

Lastly I drilled a hole into the 1/4" x 1/4" square tube to feed the wire through the arm. After the hole was drilled I cut the plug off the light kit and fed the wire through the arm and re-attached the plug with some electrical tape.
