Introduction: Pencil Slingshot

About: Southern musician and tinkerer with too much time on his hands.

This is an office supplies slingshot made of only wooden pencils, rubber bands, and duct tape!!!

Step 1: Materials

For this weapon...I mean...project, you will need: 5 rubber bands, 2 new wooden pencils, a knife (preferably with a half serrated half non serrated blade), a felt-tip pen, and a roll of duct tape.

Step 2: Step 2

Line up the pencils as shown.

Step 3: Notching Out

About 1 1/4 inch down the pencil from the eraser end, make a notch about a pencil width wide on both pencils.

Step 4: Lining Up

when the notches are lined up, they should look like this

Step 5: Time for Duct Tape!

I can normally get a secure hold from four 4inch strips of duct tape, but feel free to use more if you are paranoid of getting your knuckles busted off by failing duct tape or if you have the cheap stuff.

Step 6: Another Notch!

Now to create the notches for the rubber band. Create a narrow notch about 2/3ds of an inch down from the unsharpened end of the pencil (or in my case sharpened because I bought pre sharpened ones.) Do this on both pencils. It should look like the picture.

Step 7: The Super Band!!

I really don't know how to explain this step, and if you already know how to join loops together then good for you. Basically, you keep crossing them over like in the picture until when you pull them, the come together in a tight knot. If anyone can explain this better please do so! When finished, it should look like the second picture, keep doing this until all the rubber bands are joined

Step 8: Nocking Up the Bands

Slide both end bands onto the notches that we made earlier. It should look like the picture.

Step 9: Securing the Bands

Now just tape over the notches with the rubber bands in them.

Step 10: Finishing Touches and Completion

You may want to wrap the middle rubber band in duct tape, I did solely because I like duct tape. but otherwise, your done! This can shoot almost anything you want, but my ammo of choice is paper hornets!(see my instructable for those)
