Percy Jackson's Camp Half-Blood Necklace

Here I will show you how to make Percy's camp half-blood necklace. Excuse me if I accidently fangirl while I'm at it. :)

~ Just so you know, there are many ways of making this, with different pictures/colors on the beads, so here I'm just making what I think it was really like.

Step 1: Materials

What you'll need:

Acrylic paint in green, purple, red, white, blue, yellow and orange

Medium-sized and small paintbrush

Wire

Six round beads

Black sharpie

String or twine

Clasp

Step 2: Painting the Beads

Start by cutting six pieces of wire about 5 inches long. Place one of your beads in the middle and fold the wire back to make a place to hold it by. Once you've painted the bead, bend the wire in a hook shape a place it on the binding of a spiral-bound notebook to dry.

Step 3: Drawing the Beads - 1

Once your beads are dry, it's time to draw the designs on them. As written the Lightning Thief, the first bead has a trident on it, and in book 2 the second bead has Thalia's pine on it. However, according to some sources, Percy never got a bead for his third year because of his quest with Artemis' hunters, but I made one anyway, with a bow and arrow to represent the Hunters.

Step 4: Drawing the Beads - 2

The fourth bead features the Labyrinth, and the fifth has the Empire State Building on it, with the names of all the heroes who died in the Last Battle (all of which I'm obviously not going to try to write on my bead).

Above is a graph of a simple maze that you can use as a guide to draw it on your fourth bead. First I drew a circle around the hole in the bead on both sides (as shown in the third picture). Then I drew the seperate random lines inside as the maze walls.

For the fifth bead, I drew a simple building with only several stories.

Step 5: Clear Coat the Beads

When your beads are finished, time to clear coat them. You can use clear Elmer's glue or mod podge, but I used Clear Gloss, which you can get from a hardware store. Take your beads outside on a piece of paper (so you don't spray the ground) and spray each bead on all sides. This gives the beads a shiny, protective coat to keep the paint from chipping.

Step 6: Necklace

Once your beads are dry, thread them on a long piece of twine or thread. Make sure the beads are on the right way! On one end of the string, thread on a clasp and double knot it. Then, measure the string around your neck to make sure how long you want your necklace, and tie on the second piece of the clasp accordingly.

Step 7: Finished!

Your necklace is finished! Give as a gift, or add to your nerd wear collection! I going to wear mine with my Piper outfit for Halloween. Get creative!
