Introduction: Philo, the 7" 3D Printed Retro TV

I have always wanted a Philco Predicta. they are not easy to find so i decided to make an HD LED version of my own.

Step 1: I Designed the Look of My Tv on Www.tinkercad.com

it went through a few different looks by the time i was finished.

Step 2: Printing the Top Half of the Tv

I printed the case for the top half of the tv in several parts, my 3d printer can only make things that are 8" square.

the back half is divided left and right as well as the front half. the arms that hold it up are printed separately in one print.

the right arm has a channel in it for the wires. i used an Ethernet cable for an 8 conductor power and keypad cable, and a thin mini HDMI cable for video,

the right side of the case has a half moon shaped hole below the mounting bolt hole for the cables.

i used 1/4 20 bolts to hold the case to the arms. there is also a 1/4 20 bolt hole in the top of the swivel base, so that it can swivel 180 degrees.

Step 3: Cutting the Bottom Wooden Half.

i used the measurements from the 3d model i made to build the cabinet.

it was 12" wide, 6" deep, 3" high

originally it was smaller but i decided to redo it with larger dimensions.

once i had the pieces cut, and sanded i stained them mahogany color.

i cut holes for speakers i had on hand. and used tacks and glue to attach a fabric speaker grille over the front

i used 2" brads and wood glue to build the cabinet.

Step 4: Wiring

this is a list of the parts that i used

there is a front multiswitch made from 3 printed parts, 2 micro switches, a 1/4 20 2" bolt, and a push button on off switch.

the video shows how pushing the bolt straight in will turn the main power on, and twisting it left or right will either switch the hdmi ports. (the wires are soldered to the input selector in the hdmi switcher), twisting the other way is an extra function that i don't use but wanted to design for later use.

i use a 12v 2.5a power supply for the main power, and a 12v usb power supply, to provide power for the hdmi switch, and the hdmi to stereo audio adapter.

the basic wiring diagram is also pictured. i didn't do a good job drawing it.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

there are 3 buttons on the right side. the top is "up", the middle is "menu", the bottom is "down", they control the tv menu functions.

the front channel style knob is push for power, right for input, and left for a third unused function.

below is an analog volume control, it comes with the amplifier kit.
