Introduction: Pier 9 Workshop: How to Use the MSDS Online System

This Instructable is for Workshop Users at Pier 9.

Requirements for using our MSDS Online System.

  • You must have access to the Autodesk Infosys site
  • Take General Workshop Safety Class
  • Recommended - Spray Booth Class

The new MSDS online system will make it easier for users to not only search for approved chemicals but also request to have chemicals approved. Pier 9 is an amazing workshop with state of the art facilities and beautiful views. Due to our location and storage space we are highly regulated and very limited to what we can have at Pier 9.

This Instructable will help guide you through the ways of finding chemicals that have already been approved, and how to get chemicals approved.

Step 1: How to Access the MSDS Online System

There are a few ways of accessing the MSDS Online System.

This instructable will first go through the online website version in Step 2.

In Step 3 and 4 you will be shown how to use the VelocityEHS app. It will help you log in and use the app.

  • To use the website or phone app version, follow this link to our Chemical Safety page on Infosys
    • follow the quick link to Download the MSDSOnline App - it's on the right handside of the page
      • you will need the company URL found on that page or the link to the website
  • Use the VelocityEHS app on a Workshop ipad
    • located in the Textiles area, CNC shop, and Metal shop

Step 2: Searching With the MSDS Online Website

  • Click on Advanced Search
  • Choose P9 Workshops as the location*
  • Choose Active for Product Status

*It is important to set the location. Some chemicals may be approved for different Autodesk locations or other parts of Pier 9 but not in the general workshops .

  • Start by typing in the Manufacturers Name or Product Name
    • For example, one type of Cyano Acetate that has been approved is Bob Smith Industries
    • But if you search for Cyano Acetate nothing will come up in the results
    • However you can search for Insta-cure+ or Bob Smith Industries
  • Hit Search
  • Results will appear below
    • Double check your results to make sure they are approved for P9 Workshops
    • You can view or download the MSDS sheet
    • Some summerized product safety information is available if you click on the product name

Step 3: Searching on the VelocityEHS App

  • Click on Filters
  • Choose Filter By Location
  • Choose P9 Workshops

  • Start by typing in the Manufacturers Name or Product Name

Step 4: Requesting a New Chemical Approval

Please submit chemical approval well before the date you plan to use it. They can sometimes take awhile to approve.

  • Follow this Link
  • Fill out the form and submit it
  • Wait for Email Approval
  • Once you have recieved the email approval, bring the chemical to ShopStaff
    • They will put an Approved Chemical sticker on it
