Introduction: Eyeglasses Loss Prevention

About: I enjoy working on my Website at: http://d21c.com/pygman/Pigs-and-Poets.html I am a retired USAF MSGT. I was widowed in 95 and met my High school Sweetheart in 2001 in Classmates, we were married that same…

Too many times that I care to mention, I have lost my Reading Glasses or Sunglasses from my shirt pocket while bending over or exiting my car. This can be a very expensive loss depending on the cost, or the need of the item that is lost.

In this Instructable I will be giving step by step procedures on how to make my "Loss Preventers" through word and illustration. You will see near duplicate steps due to my use of two different materials being used in their construction.

NO MORE LOSS, here are the two types of "Loss Preventers" that I have designed to stop those expensive losses:

Step 1: STEP 1: Viewing Two Types of Eyeglasses As They Might Be Carried in Your Shirt Pocket.

Step 2: STEP 1a: View of Second Type of Eyeglasses, As They Might Be Carried in Your Shirt Pocket.

Step 3: STEP 2: View of the Two Types of "Loss Preventers",

Step 4: STEP 3: Tools and Materials Needed.

To Start, you will need the following items:

1-package of SMALL Alligator Clips. You can find these is most any Hardware Store of Hardware Department. Notice the Ears and Ear Channel at the rear of the Clip, and the small hole at the bottom of the Clip.

Step 5: STEP 3a: Material Types to Connect Between Alligator Clips.

Type 1: 4 to 4 1/2 inches of Elastic Stretch Cord, approximately 1/16 inch in diameter. This can be found in Women's Sewing Accessories at Wal-Mart or Target Stores.

Type 2: 4 to 4 1/2 inches of Lighting or Lamp Pull chain, found is most Hardware Stores or Hardware Departments.

Step 6: STEP 4: Tools

I used this very small set of tools
that I purchased at a local Hardware Store
to fabricate my "Loss Preventers":

Long Nosed Pliers, straight.
Long Nosed Pliers, Off-Set.
Diagonal or Side Cutters.

Step 7: STEP 5: Cut to Length

In this step, you will cut to length, using your Side Cutters and the type of material you opt to make your "Preventers".

Step 8: STEP 6: Set-up.

Here you set-up your Alligator Clip to receive the Chain before securing it. Allow 2 beads to rest in front of the Clip Ear Channel before clamping down to secure it.

Step 9: Step 6a: Set-up.

Here you set-up your Alligator Clip to receive the Elastic Stretch Cord before securing it. I first inserted the cord into the hole of the Alligator Clip and tied a knot in it to keep the cord from coming out. I made sure the cord rested in the Clip Ear Channel before securing it.

Step 10: STEP 7: Securing the Clip Ends.

In this step you will secure the Clip ends using the tools in Step 4.

Here is the view of the completed step after attaching the chain to the Alligator Clips.

Step 11: STEP 7a: Securing the Clip Ends

In this step you will secure the Clip ends using the tools in Step 4.

Here is the view of the completed step after attaching the Elastic Stretch Cord to the Alligator Clips.

SPECIAL NOTE: After attachment, to facilitate opening and closing the Clip, I cut the knot off the end of the Elastic Stretch Cord.

Step 12: STEP 8: View of Loss Preventer in You Shirt Pocket.

View 1 shows "Loss Preventer" in the Pocket. The 1st view is with Chain.

Step 13: STEP 8A: View of Loss Preventer in Preventer in You Shirt Pocket.

View 2 shows "Preventer" in the pocket. This 2nd view is with the Elastic Stretch Cord.
