Introduction: Quickie Parmesan Pretzel Bites With Cheesy Cheddar Dipping Sauce

About: I enjoy crafting, photography, gardening and cooking. I am an avid cooking contester and I have won several national contests.

In the Fall I love eating a warm snack dipped into a gooey sauce! For this Cheese Instructable, I will show you how to make a very cheesy snack featuring 2 kinds of cheeses. The warm pretzel bites are quick to prepare because you use refrigerated biscuit dough! I top the pretzel bites with some Parmesan to make the bites cheesy and the warm Cheddar cheese sauce is the perfect cheesy compliment to them. And it is fun to dip each pretzel bite into the sauce! We really do love eating them! Here is how you can easily make some!

Supplies

Parmesan Pretzel Bite Ingredients:

1 can (8-count) refrigerated biscuit dough

1/4 cup baking soda

1 large egg

1 tablespoon water

1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt

fine Parmesan cheese

Tools:

sheet pan

silicone baking mat or parchment paper

3-quart saucepan

small bowl

spider or slotted spoon

fork

sharp knife

spoon

pastry brush

Step 1: Lay Out the Biscuits

Peal off the label and pop open the biscuit dough. (As you can see, mine popped itself open this time before I had the label off........POP!) Separate the biscuit dough into 8 biscuits.

Step 2: Form Balls of Dough

Cut each biscuit into fourths. Roll each fourth into a ball.

Step 3: Getting Ready

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Place a silicone baking mat or parchment paper on a baking sheet.

Step 4: Boil Water

Fill a 3-quart saucepan 1/2 full with water. Bring to a boil over high heat.

Step 5: Add Baking Soda

Carefully stir in the baking soda. The water will foam up, so that is why the pot is only half filled with water.

Step 6: Add Some Dough Balls

Add balls of dough in batches of 8 at a time into the baking soda bath. Boil for about 15 seconds on each side.

Step 7: Remove Them

Use a spider or slotted spoon to transfer dough balls to the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough until all have been boiled and placed on the baking sheet.

Step 8: Beat the Egg

In a small bowl, beat the egg and 1 tablespoon water with a fork. This is the egg wash for the pretzel balls.

Step 9: Brush Them!

Brush egg wash over each dough ball.

Step 10: Sprinkle, Sprinkle!

Immediately sprinkle with Kosher salt followed by a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.

Step 11: Bake Them

Bake for 15 minutes, until nicely browned and looking like pretzels.

Step 12: Supplies for the Sauce

Cheesy Cheddar Dipping Sauce Ingredients:

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 cup milk

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1/2 teaspoon salt

Tools needed:

1 quart saucepan

whisk

shredder/grater

Spoon

plate

Step 13: Shred the Cheese

Cut the cheese into chunks that will fit into the shredder. Shred the entire block of cheddar cheese. If you prefer, you can use packaged shredded cheese, but my shredder makes it so quickly, I like to make my own.

Step 14: Measure It

Measure 1 cup of the cheese. Save the remaining cheese in a ziplocking bag for another use.

Step 15: Start Making the Sauce

Melt the butter in a 1-quart saucepan over medium heat.

Step 16: Add Flour

Gradually whisk in the flour. Continue whisking for approximately 1 minute until it starts to brown just a little.

Step 17: Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk. Continue whisking until thickened.

Step 18: Add the Salt and Cheese

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Whisk in the salt and the cheddar cheese, whisking until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 19: Ready to Serve!

Spoon cheese sauce into a serving bowl. Arrange the warm cheesy pretzel bites on a serving plate around the bowl.

Step 20: Enjoy!

The Parmesan Pretzel Bites are warm and soft. The Cheesy Cheddar Dipping Sauce is thick and gooey! The sauce makes for a wonderfully tasty, cheesy coating on the pretzel bite! I really enjoy eating them and I am sure you will too! Thank you for viewing my Instructable! I hope you give this recipe a try. It's yummy gooey-good!!!!
