Introduction: Rain Chain an Aesthetic Useful Accessory

Japanese originated the use of rain chain over a hundred of years ago. These were commonly used to direct water into large containers for use in the homes, gardens and temples. Rain chain is an artistic alternative to the rain gutter or downspout and is prevalent in many homes today. From Japan, these chains are now moved on till North America. Its wide variety including a choice of plain chains or chains with cups attached has increased the demand of copper rain chain.

Copper rain chain is a decorative piece used in place of gutter downspouts that hang from a building roof line. Chains made from copper are highly demanded for their durability and artistic beauty of changing patina as it ages. These chains are used for their aesthetics in temples, shops and homes.

Installation

Rain chains are easy to be installed and can be inserted into existing rain gutters. An expandable hangar or bar at the gutter drain hole is inserted and the rain chain is suspended from the hangar and is anchored to the ground. The chains can end in a rock bed or gravel-filled decorative planter that drains to the street.

Maintenance

Copper chains require little maintenance periodically. The barrel into which water flowing through the chain is stored must be emptied and cleaned from time to time as mosquitoes may breed in standing water. The chain should be anchored to control the water flow and chain movement in windy areas. Moreover, in ice storm areas, the chain is shaken to break ice from the links.
