Introduction: Reclaimed Window Frame

Walking around the city you will run into an old window frame once in a while tossed by the trash or construction site. Here's a cool idea for a nice piece of art you can make from peoples' old garbage.

You will need:

* Old window frame

* LED strip + power supply + wire

* PVC sheets cut to size

* Paper for opaque look (optional: with print)

* Oil based paint (optional)

Step 1: Prep and Paint

1. CAREFULLY remove and glass still in the frame. If all the glass panes are whole you might choose to just leave them as is

2. Remove any unwanted hinges/nail/dirt/silicon etc.

3. [optional] Paint the frame to you liking. Use oil based paint for wooden frames. For a vintage style paint job see another project of mine

Step 2: Light and Testing

1. Find the ideal location for the power supply (usually at the bottom) and secure it to the frame. You might have to cut into the wood a little to make it fit and not stick out.

2. Stick the led strip along the inside of the frame. The strips often come as a sort of sticker but you might want to use additional glue to hold it in place permanently.

3. Wire it all together and test the lights.

4. Place the PVC sheets in place and play around with the opacity until you find the look you like. You can use different types of plastic and paper to let more or less light through and create an opaque look.

Step 3: Artwork

You might want to add a printed silhouette inside the frame to give the whole piece an artistic and personal look.

All that's left is to find the ideal location and hang it on the wall.
