Introduction: Recycled Bearing Rings

Step 1: Materials

All you'll need for this instructable is: -some old skateboard bearings in any condition -a tool that can puncture -pliers -spray paint or cleaning and metal polishing tools

Step 2: Disassembly

Bearings are made to not come apart on purpose therefore there is special way to do it. Take the bearing and set it on a flat surface. Use your puncturing tool to make a small hole on the metal ball cover. Pry up the cover with the pliers and remove it. Next their is a metal wavy piece that Is used to space out the balls, remove it with the puncture tool (which in my case was a metal multi tool nail file). Repeat on the other side. Now all that is left is the balls and the inner and outer ring. Move all the balls to one side of the ring and then apply pressure via your fingers to the opposite side of all the balls. Pop it out and your left with the actual outer ring.

Step 3: Cleaning

The bearings use lots of grease and lubricants to keep them from overheating and breaking. Wipe away this with just a paper towel. From here there is two paths to take one is to just simply shine it or you can spray paint it. FOR SPRAY PAINTS If you choose this route just take the ring that has been wiped clean and spray it as simple as that! Make sure to do light coats as to not make it sticky or too thick or runny. FOR SHINY clean off the ring with acetone and then shine it with whatever you please.NOTE you will need to use something that will prevent rust because the rings will rust with undesirable results.
