Recycled Ladder Cat Tree

 We wanted a cat tree, but there was no way we were going to spend between $50 and $100 dollars on a cat tree that wasn't what we really wanted and that the cats would tear up. sheesh cat trees are expensive!  So we made this instead.

What you need :

Old wooden ladder, this one is 6 ft
Scrap wood
Scrap carpet, we bought carpet mats from dollar tree
Screws and screw gun 
Staplers and stapler gun

What to do :

Open up the ladder to decide what length you want the boards to be.  Once the boards are cut, you can trim the carpet and staple in on.  Because the wood on the ladder is old, you should predrill the holes before you screw the boardson the ladder .Also, since the "wrong" side of the ladder is shorter that the "right side" you will need shims to level it.  The shims we used were scraps of wood and carpet.(see forth picture). Screw the carpeted board on the ladder (be sure the predrilled holes match up) and let the cats enjoy it. We are going to add rope up the side too, for  a scratching post, we just haven't go to it yet.
