Introduction: Remove Creases From a Silk Scarf

This is an instructable to remove stubborn creases from a silk scarf. A lot of people are not sure how to treat silk items as they are very delicate so here we go.

Step 1: Stubborn Creases

Scarves are typically folded when sent by mail. The pictures show how my scarf looked like when I took it out from the packet. The creases were very stubborn due to the need for the scarf to be flat packed for postage.

Step 2: Wash It!

Just gently dab the scarf in cold water for a couple of seconds. Take it out and gently shake the water off (as much as you can). It is very important NOT to wring the scarf as the silk is very delicate!

Step 3: Let It Dry..

Hang the scarf over an ironing board and straighten it by hand.. Take a hair drier and set it on a low setting (both heat and strength) and help the scarf to dry a bit faster :-)

I dried it with a hair drier for about 5-10 minutes and then I left it to dry on its own for another 15-20 minutes.

P.S. Some people suggest this step could also be done using the 'delicate' setting on a tumble dryer. If you are not sure about the outcome (or do not have a tumble dryer), then I think it is better to use the method above.

Step 4: Preparing the Scarf for Ironing

Leave the scarf on the ironing board. Get a towel or a pillow case and gently put it over the scarf ( when the scarf is about 70% dry).

Step 5: Ironing..

Set the iron on 'Silk' or a very low setting (temperature between 100-180°C or 212-356°F) and very gently start pressing over the towel or pillow case.

Step 6: Job Done!

Move the ironed scarf on a bed or anywhere flat to finish off drying for another 10-15 minutes and it's ready to be worn!
