Laboratory science, being the vital element of the medical industry, a medical laboratory and its technicians play a great role in it. In general medical laboratory scientists and medical laboratory technicians collect samples and perform the tests to analyze body fluids, tissue, and other substances.

When taken a look into their role, they will run diagnostic tests on tissue, blood and body fluid samples that will act as a great help in diagnosis or monitor medical conditions. In general, detecting, identifying diseases, infections, chemical analysis of samples, checking for blood transfusion compatibility and much more are the responsibilities.

Following are the responsibilities of a Medical laboratory technologist:

• They analyze some of the body fluids such as blood, urine and tissue samples headed for determining normal or abnormal findings

• With the help of the laboratory equipment like microscopes and cell counters tend to find out the cell counts etc.

• Operate automated equipment and computerized instruments that is proficient of performing a number of tests at the same time.

• Pull together and revise blood samples for use in transfusions by identifying the number of cells, the cell morphology or the blood group, blood type, and compatibility with other blood types

• Keep a record of data from medical tests and enter results into a patient’s medical record

• Once the results and findings are had they will converse the laboratory tests and procedures with physicians

• Supervise or train medical laboratory technicians.
