Introduction: Reversible Pet Bandanna

About: I am just a girl who works at a craft store inspired by the things around me every day.

This simply instructable will show you how to make your pets these stylish reversible bandannas!

Supplies

- Paper

- Needles

- Thread

- Scissors

- A Pen

- A Flexible Measuring Tape

- A Small Amount of Velcro

- Two Pieces of Fabric (Cotton or Flannel works best)

- *Optional: A Sewing Machine*

Step 1: Measure Your Furry Friends Neck

Using a flexible measuring tape, loosely measure around your animals neck and take note of the size.

On paper sketch out the pattern to be used to make the bandanna. The width of the triangle pattern should be roughly 4 inches longer than the pets neck measurement. The height of the triangle pattern should be half of the neck measurement (my cats neck was 10 inches around so my height would be 10/2 = 5 inches).

Fold the paper in half down the center height and cut the triangle sketch out of the paper (this makes sure that each side is symmetrical).

You now have your pattern! Save this pattern so you can make an endless supply of bandannas for your pet!

Step 2: Cut Out Your Fabric

Lay the paper pattern that you created on top of the fabric you'd like to use. Be sure the pattern is facing the correct direction (the triangle should be pointing downward).

Trace around the paper pattern onto your fabric using a pen.

Cut out the traced piece from the fabric and repeat this process on the reverse side's piece of fabric as well.

Step 3: Sew the Right Sides of the Fabric Together

Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and mark out 1/2 inch seam allowance to be sewn around the bandanna.

Be sure to leave a 2-3 inch opening at the top of the bandanna where you do not sew over (this will be used to turn the bandanna back to the correct side out).

Sew around the bandanna on this marked edge with a straight stitch, you can either use a sewing machine like I have or hand sew it.

Using that 2-3 inch opening left at the top of the bandanna turn the right sides out, you can use a wooden dowel or pen through the opening to get the corners of the fabric completely unrolled.

Step 4: Top Stitch Around the Bandanna

Press the bandanna so that the edges are folded neatly and the triangle shape is evident.

Top stitch around the entirety of the bandanna using either a sewing machine or hand sewing. Be sure that the 2-3 inch opening left before is stitched closed during the top stitching process.

Step 5: Add the Velcro Enclosure

Measure out the width of the bandanna once again to be sure it will be large enough for your pets neck after all the stitching.

Mark where your Velcro will be placed (be sure one piece of the Velcro goes on each side of the bandanna).

Straight stitch around the perimeter of the Velcro using either a sewing machine or hand sewing.

Step 6: Try It on Your Furry Friend!

Your bandanna is complete!

Try it on your pet! I like how mine looks when the top of the bandanna is rolled over so that you get a peak at each side of the fabric no matter what way my cat Peachy is wearing it. These bandannas can also be worn unrolled so only one side is visible at a time.
