When you went trick or treating as a child the candy inside your plastic pumpkin was always the best part. Well now the pumpkin can be enjoyed as well in this delicious Halloween treat! Fun craft for the whole family and a nice decoration for a Halloween buffet.

Ingredients

Rice Krispies Treats™

  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 ⅓ cup marshmallows
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies® Cereal

Decoration

  • Wedding White color Fondarific® Buttercream Fondant
  • Betty Crocker® Classic Gel Food Colors
  • Chocolate Licorice
  • M&Ms® or other small candies

Est. Time: 40 minutes

Quantity: Four to six pumpkin bowls, depending on size and amount of fondant.

Step 1:

Melt butter over low heat in a saucepan and mix marshmallows in until completely melted, then remove from heat.

Step 2:

Add the Rice Krispies® Cereal to the melted marshmallow and stir until fully coated.

Step 3:

WARNING!! Before this step, wait until the rice krispies mixture has cooled to prevent burns. However, slightly warm rice krispies treats are easier to mold than completely cooled rice treats krispies so don’t leave it to cool for too long.

  • Need to have a round buttered ½ cup measuring cup, or another small round bowl to scoop in small amounts into the bowl and press in until molded.
  • Remove the molded Treats™ immediately after molding.
  • Gently press top edges closer together to form a rounder shape, if needed.
  • Repeat until all of the Treats™ mixture is molded into bowls.

Step 4:

  • For the fondant, cut a golf ball-size piece out, then grab the food coloring.
  • Add two drops of the yellow food color
  • One drop of the red food coloring.
  • Knead the coloring into the fondant until the coloring is completely mixed in and turned into an orange color
  • Tear a pea-size amount of the now orange fondant and save it for later

Step 5:

Roll out the rest of the orange fondant onto a buttered surface with a buttered roller until the fondant is thin enough.

Step 6:

  • Place the already molded Treats™ bowl in the center of the orange rolled fondant.
  • Carefully peel up the edges to cover the bowl in the orange fondant.
  • Pick up the bowl to see if the fondant on the bottom of the bowl also sticks.

Step 7:

  • Now take a pea-sized chunk of white fondant .
  • Add one drop blue
  • One drop red
  • Add one drop yellow
  • Knead the coloring into the fondant until the coloring is completely mixed into a black color

Step 8:

Roll out the black fondant onto a buttered surface with a buttered roller until the fondant is thin.

Step 9:

  • Cut out the desired face patterns carefully from the black fondant with a knife.
  • Stick them onto the pumpkin bowl treat that is already wrapped in the orange fondant to give the pumpkin bowl a face.

Step 10:

WARNING: Knives are sharp and children should be accompanied by an adult before handling knives.

Measure and then cut a piece of chocolate licorice to use for the handle of the pumpkin bowl.

Step 11:

  • Use the orange fondant set aside earlier and split it into two even pieces.
  • These pieces will be attached to the top edges of the pumpkin bowl to ensure that the licorice will hold to the pumpkin bowl.
  • Make sure the ends of the licorice are on the inside of the pumpkin bowl so it won’t disconnect from the bowl.

Step 12:

Lastly, fill the bowl with M&Ms® or your favorite small candy and enjoy!

This recipe makes about four to six pumpkin bowls, depending on the size of bowl and the amount of fondant used.

Tip: More fondant per pumpkin makes for easier handling.
