Step 1: Download and Install the Programs

First, you must download and install the specified programs from the links (also shown below).

  • Download DVD43 from http://www.dvd43.com/. When opening the file, it will be ok to run it when it shows the warning prompt. Just click Ok. DVD43 is a programs that removes the copy protection from DVDs, but doesn't rip them. DVD43 worked with most new DVDs and old. If DVD43 doesn't detect your DVD, your DVD is probably unprotected. Just skip to step 4 (but install Handbrake).
  • Download Handbrake from http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php. Handbrake rips all unprotected DVDs (which is why you need DVD43 to unprotect the DVD). You can choose the output format and codec (more information in the following steps).

Step 2: Run DVD43

After installing both programs you may have to restart your computer. After that, open DVD43. To be sure that DVD43 is running, look in the toolbar tray and find a yellow normal face.

Step 3: Insert Your DVD

Insert the DVD you want to rip. A dialog box (from DVD43) may pop up for a few seconds and DVD43 will remove the protection. When the program has finished, the icon in the tray will be a green smiley face.

Note: DVD43 can take up to a minute when remove newer types of copy-protection.

Step 4: Open Handbrake and Adjust the Settings, Then Start

Open Handbrake. Click 'Source' and choose the DVD drive. It will scan the DVD for about a minute. When it has finished, choose a place to save your ripped file. You then choose a preset from the side.  You can set the file format and change other settings like the width and the height and the codec.

Once you're done, click Start. A command prompt window will appear showing the encoding process.

Step 5: Final Step

Once the ripping is finished, add your movie to iTunes or just keep it in your computer to watch anytime. And be happy :)
