Shadowbox From 12'' X 12'' Paper

This is a 12'' x 12'' Piece of paper to start off with and you can create a fun shadowbox using only paper! It is quite simple to do, and the results are fantastic.

Step 1: Step 1

Take your 12'' x 12'' paper you have chosen, and using a score board, score the paper at the 11 1/2, 11,10 1/2, and10 inch marks.

Turn the paper and score the same on each side going around the whole piece of paper.

Step 2: Step 2 Cutting the Paper

Now that you have scored the paper all the way around you will now begin to cut each corner. You must cut in 4 rows and remove the piece of paper, on the 5th row, cut only to the score line, leaving a flap on the paper, which you will be using later. Do this on all 4 sides.

Once you have cut the paper on all 4 sides you then can fold up the score lines towards the middle of the paper, creating a box shape, as seen in the second photo. .

The Flap that you have created will be left to fold over the adjoining fold on the connecting side, to give a clean edge to your shadowbox. See Photo 3 & 4.

You may then follow around the whole piece of paper, folding and making each side of the shadowbox. You may used glue or score tape to attach the sides, hot glue is not recommended.

When all 4 sides are folded and you have your flaps with tape or glue on them, fold them over and it will cover the negative space left in the folded side, giving you a sharp clean edge. See Photo 5.

In the Final photo in this step you will see the completed shadow box.

Step 3: Step 3 Creating Sections Inside the Shadowbox

Now that your box is made you can make as many sections in your shadowbox as you like. Once you make the long middle sections you are free to make as many compartments as you like.

To create the bar in the middle sections you will use a complimentary piece of paper and after measuring the inside of your box, score your paper at the 1, 1 1/2, 2, and 2 1/2 inch sections. See Photo 1 and Photo 2 in this section.

After you have scored your paper, measure the inside of your shadowbox once more to be sure, and cut your strip lengthwise to fit inside your box, it should be 8 inches in length.

Now that you have the long middle strip you can place it anywhere you wish in your box.

To create the smaller horizontal pieces, measure your shadowbox again to see how long you need to make your pieces, this will be dependant upon where you have placed your long vertical piece in your shadow box.

Make these pieces exactly the same way as you have the other pieces and cut them to fit the box.

After you make your pieces, then use glue or Score Tape to attach them to the inside of your box. See Photo 3 and 4 in this section.

Step 4: Step 4 Embellishing Your Shadowbox

Now that you have assembled your shadowbox, it is time for the fun part, embellishing it!

Choose your embellishments to match your paper, and your products you are going to use to alter them if you wish. See Photos 1 & 2 in this section.

I have chosen to use lace on my shadow box, so I have included this step, it is not mandatory.

Embellish your shadowbox to your liking, creating and using fun items you have on hand. See Photos 3,4 &5 in this section

I have also chosen to place a lace trim around the edge of the box and attached it with hot glue. See Photo 6 in this section.

Step 5: Step 5 Finishing Off Your Shadowbox

Now that you have chosen your embellishments, altered them or used what you had on hand, you can create any type of shadowbox you wish, use your imagination and get creative!

I have added lots of lovely chipboard, metal, and wood pieces to mine to give a vintage look to it, but you can make it any way you like. See Photos 1,2,3 & 4 in this section

Now that you have finished off your shadowbox you can proudly display it in your home, or give it as a gift to a special person. Remember you are only limited by your own imagination!
