Simple Screen Printing (an Instructable for My Buddy, Sam!)

My friend, Sam wanted me show her how to screen print in a YouTube video, but my iPod ran out of space. So, I just decided to post up an Instructable especially for Sam 'cause I love her!

You'll Need:
-An embroidery hoop (any size, depending on how big your design is)
-A basic black and white picture that you want to screen print (I used a bat's silhouette)
-Scissors
-A pen/marker/pencil/chalk
-Water
-A paint brush (that you don't mind getting crusty)
-Water
-Tape
-Mod Podge
-An old pair of panty hose
-Scrap material :D

Step 1: Prepare the Hoop!

In this step, all you need to do is slip on a piece of the panty hose (big or small enough for your hoop) onto the embroidery hoop and cut the back off. For bigger hoops, I suggest any type of stretchy, porous hose-like material.

Step 2: Trace Your Picture!

So, the title of the step pretty much wraps it up for ya, right?

Step 3: Glue It Up!

Ok, in this step, all you have to do is coat the parts of the screen that you don't want to be painted in Mod Podge. So, in my case, I used a bat, I would coat all of the surrounding space in Mod Podge and then carefully put glue on the eye outlines. Let it dry and add a few more layers, this will assure that the paint won't bleed.

Step 4: Paint It!

In this last step, all you have to do is paint your screen print onto your scrap fabric. If it's a little sloppy or lacking in details or pieces of, say, a wing, just touch it up with the paint brush when you're done.
