Skeleton Flamingos

To honor Donald Featherstone, the late creator of the pink yard flamingo, lets re-purpose a few for our favorite holiday. Once an exotic yard decoration, the birds more recently are associated with tackiness. Let's free all of the birds from their shame and embarrassment. Together we can form an unstoppable skele-fowl army, a million birds strong!

A simple project for all skill levels. Transform your pink plastic flamingos to freaky foul fowl for Halloween.

What you will need:

- a couple plastic flamingos

- black spray paint that bonds with plastic

- paint pens

- cardboard or newspaper

Step 1: The Birds

Secure a couple plastic yard birds.

If you don't have any buried in your shed or garage, check your local thrift shops.

Step 2: I See a Pink Bird...

Lay some newspaper down.

Coat your birds in black paint according to the directions on the can of spray paint.

Step 3: Inspiration

Search for images of flamingo skeletons using your favorite web browser.

Try to find birds with positions and shapes similar to your plastic birds.

The simpler, the better.

Step 4: Start Drawing

Protect your work space with newspaper or cardboard.

Using the image you found, start drawing the bones on your bird.

It doesn't matter what color you use. You can mix and match.

No special skill required, I'm a horrible artist and it still turned out OK.

Step 5: Done!

Get them out in your yard! Trick-or-treaters love them.
