Introduction: Sliding Hook Wall Coat Rack

hi,

it's been a long time that I needed a coat rack, instead of pilling up my coats on the chairs.

I don't really need to make the hook moveable, but why not.

We can add or remove hook or hang anything else with a french cleat

Step 1: Tools and Materials

what do you need :

  • paper
  • thin cardboard
  • some pieces of wood

tool used :

  • pencil
  • scissors
  • scroll saw
  • table router
  • dremel or regular sand paper
  • paintbrush
  • paint
  • hammer drill
  • level
  • 2 wall plug
  • 2 screw

Step 2: The Rack :

My brother is curently building is house. So I collect lot of his scrap wood.

I find a good one with already a good angle for my rack. To do this, just take a plank and cut an angle between 90° and 45°.

I cut an end of this plank for another project so I'm gonna use it to report on my pattern.

Step 3: Make a Hook Pattern :

Ok, know it's time to draw, cut and report.

On a paper draw a hook pattern of your liking. I'm not very good at drawing, so the lines help me !

Report the side of our rack on your pattern. With this part out, we gonna be able to slide our hooks on the rack.

Cut your drawing, report-it on a thin cardboard and cut it again.

Now we can use it to report our pattern on the wood

Step 4: Let's Cut Some Hook :

Cut the hook with a scrall saw, I just finish building it, so this is my project to test it.

I'm not really accurate so I reshape the mistake with a dremel;

Then round the edge with a router table.

I sand it one last time, to make it smooth, erase the burning marks and the tearout.

Finally a bit of painting.

Step 5: Fix It and Enjoy :

With a level, mark the wall for our holes.

with the hammer drill do the hole.

Put the wall plug in place an then fix the rack with the screw.

Let's put the hooks in place, and enjoy the tidiness.
